2001 season match reports
13th April 2002 UNBEATEN SPARTAN ARE STYLISH CHAMPIONS A great support saw Spartan Colts take the league title in style on Saturday by beating title chasing Purbrook 4-1 to end the season unbeaten Champions. Spartan Colts knew the title would be theirs by beating Purbrook and started the game nervously. As the game progressed Spartan's confidence grew and they started to dominate and show the attractive football that they have played all year. Following a great passing move a resulting corner produced a quality goal worthy of the cup final atmosphere. Jo 'Tez' Terry timed his run to the back post perfectly to meet Liam McCormick's corner to power the ball home to break the deadlock. McCormick was then brought down in the box by the Purbrook keeper and Michael 'Jenks' Jenkins coolly scored from the spot to make it 2-0 at half time. The second half was no disappointment as Spartan's organised midfield and defence refused to let Purbrook settle in to their game, tackling and pressuring them at all times. Spartan made the game safe when McCormick scored direct from a corner to make it 3 - 0 and then raced on to a long through ball to slot the ball under the approaching keeper to make it 4 - 0. With seconds remaining on the clock Purbrook grabbed a late consolation goal to make it 4 - 1.
