Spartan do it again...........
 | The, fast becoming, annual supporters/managers match between Spartan and Gosport was played at Monkton on Sunday the 18th May on a cold and windy day. Last year Spartan were victorious and expecting a strong Borough team to be out for revenge. The Spartan keeper had a lonely first half as Spartan (with the wind) eased to a 3-0 half time score. The second half was a different matter with Borough piling the pressure on (aided by the wind) but the Spartan defence repelled all the attacks. Strong finishing meant another 5 were scored in the Gosport goal to ease the score to a resounding 8. Mac, in goal for Spartan, had a very unusual day in keeping a clean sheet and winning (something he is not used to at all). Congratulations to all that turned up and played on both sides. It was a competitive game for all ages and we are sure there will be a lot of aches and pains in the the following week. Thanks to the organisers (in particular Kev and John) and thanks to the woman in the house behind the North goal for pinching one of the balls and taking it into the house with her. We know where you live missus. Thanks also to the people that came to watch, and laugh, at the game. And of course the kids, who came to watch, but played their own game and didn't see any of their dads play. There were no real casualites and the cardiac arrest concern has gone away for another year.
Final Score. Spartan Geriatrics 8. Gosport Invalids 0
It was good fun. Ouch! Ooh my legs, back, arm, foot etc*. Delete as appropriate.
Mac and Kev.
Players.
Kev (half a game due to business committments, we scored more goals in the second half after he had gone. Coincidence? You be the judge of that. Thanks for the team talks m8)
Mac (useless as ever)
Stu (surprisingly good at headers)
Jenks (noisy and demanding. Played well)
Arthur (Good defending and vision)
Andy D (Not bad for an old man)
Andy A (Marathon man, quick and agile)
Oh! And some others from the other age groups.
The views are of the author and not necessarily supported by the club. It is entirely coincidental that Spartan scored more goals and played better after Kev left the pitch. Please let me know if you would like to add any comments. They didn't like it up them they didn't. |
