Spartan Colts 4-1 Meon Milton (7 Sep 2003)
 | Spartan Colts made an impressive start to the season with a 4-1 win at home against Meon Milton. To begin with Meon Milton looked impressive and equal to Spartan and the early pressure resulted with Milton striking the bar. Following this Spartan came to life and began to play the impressive passing football they have become known for. Following an excellent flowing move, Liam McCormick found himself clear to cooly slot the ball past the advancing Milton keeper. Minutes later an inch perfect ball from Man of the Match Scott Allen split the Milton defence once more and McCormick added his, and Spartans, second. Seconds before half time a quick throw in resulted in Lewis Webb cutting inside and unleash an unstoppable 25 yard strike to make it 3–0 at the break. Milton battled hard in the 2nd half and restricted Spartan to fewer chances. However when Michael Privett was put clear, he unselfishly put Webb clear to grab his second and make it 4–0. Milton got a deserved consolation goal in the final minutes to make the final score 4–1. Final Score Spartan Colts 4. Meon Milton 1.

Oakley Boys 0 -5 Spartan Colts (14 Sep 2003) Hants Cup
 | Spartan Colts moved in to the 2nd round of the Hampshire cup after a sparkling display of passing football against Basingstoke based Oakley Boys. On a blisteringly hot day both teams worked hard as they battled to make the breakthrough in this fair but competitively fought cup-tie. Spartan took control winning the midfield battle and moving the ball with supreme confidence. The slick passing led to Michael Privett being put clear and blasting the opener home from close range. Shortly after Liam McCormick slotted home from an acute angle following a strong run through the Oakley defence to make 2-0 at half time. The second half was another example of smooth football from Spartan with Privett getting his 2nd and then completing his hat-trick (all from close range) after slick fast passing football. Finally Matt Lloyd finished off the scoring slotting the ball home at the far past following a quick corner by Man of the Match Elliott Fairweather. Harrison Smith performed heroics in the Oakley goal and only his brave keeping and superb saves restricted Spartans tally to five. Final Score Oakley Boys 0 Spartan Colts 5.

East Lodge 4-2 Spartan Colts (21 Sep 2003)
 | Spartan Colts and East Lodge met for the first time this season in ideal conditions at Whale Island. From the kick off it was apparent Spartan were in for a tough and physical game which the referee did well to control. East Lodge scored first in a goalmouth scrap and then gave themselves a cushion with a second. East Lodge scored again with a penalty kick before Michael Jenkins scored for Spartan to make the score 3-1 before the break. Spartan started the second half with renewed vigour and made it much more difficult from the off. A hotly contested penalty was awarded to Spartan and was eventually well saved by the East Lodge keeper. East Lodge went 4-1 up toward the end of the second session with Spartan finishing strongly, with an Elliot Fairweather strike, to regain another to make the end result 4 goals to 2 in East Lodges favour. Some very good football was played by both sides and the return match is sure to be another tough game.Man of Match – Martin Brazier.

Spartan Colts 0-3 Moneyfields (28 Sep 03)
Although below strength Spartan Colts battled valiantly against Moneyfields but nothing should be taken away from the 2-0 lead Moneyfields held at the break. Spartan still managed to play the attractive passing football but lacked the killer instinct in front of goal required. With Moneyfields grabbing a third early on in the second half Spartan’s heads could have dropped. However their good fighting character shone threw and in the last quarter of the game Michael Privett, Nick Jennings and Lewis Webb all had good chances to score for Spartan.Final Score Spartan Colts 0 Moneyfields 3. Briars Boys 4-2 Spartan Colts (12 Oct 2003) Hants Cup
 | In what the referee described as "a fantastic game of football" and "a great example to the Hampshire Leagues", Spartan Colts played Briars Boys in the 2nd Round of the Hants Cup at Lightwater. With the slope of the pitch in Briars Boys' favour, they took a 1–0 lead into the half time break as Spartan failed to take advantage of the many chances they made. After the break, and with the slope now in Spartan’s favour, Spartan started to dominate the game with ‘Man of the Match’ Elliott Fairweather causing continuous problems down the wing. However, against the run of play Briars scrambled a second but Spartan continued to play the football they have become known for and quickly hit back with a superb cross from Fairweather being finished in style by Michael Privett. Privett then stood in disbelief as chance after chance was superbly saved or narrowly flashed past the wrong side of the Briars post. With 10 minutes to go Briars looked as if they had killed off the game by adding their third, but Spartan again hit back again with Privett finally grabbing his second almost straight away. With time running out and Spartan committed to attack Briars finally grabbed the killer goal to make the final score 4–2 in Briars favour. Man of Match – Elliott Fairweather

Castle United 2-5 Spartan Colts (19 Oct 2003) Ports Cup
 | Spartan Colts moved in to the 3rd round of the Pompey cup with a comfortable victory over Castle United despite only having 10 men for half the game.
Both teams battled hard to make the breakthrough first but it was Spartan Colts who succeeded with Elliot Fairweather converting 'Man of the Match' Nick Jennings cross. Spartan then took control of the game and after constant efforts on the castle goal were rewarded with goals from Jennings (2) and Lewis Webb making the half time score 4 - 0.
At half time Spartan's injury list was increased with Antonio Dawkins having to retire from the game with a back injury. Spartan didn't let the fact that they had no substitutes to use and had to play on with 10 men effect their game. They continued to control game and their superb effort was rewarded when Jennings completed his hat trick with the help of the Castle defender and goalkeeper colliding. With 10 minutes to go the Spartan players began to show signs of fatigue and Castle United grabbed a couple of late goals to make the final score 5-2 in Spartan's favour. Man of Match – Nick Jennings.

Assistant Ref Bill (cos Mac could hardly walk after playing) Photo. Mac - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Moderators comment. Kev and the lads were handed many compliments from the Castle supporters during the match. The supporters were particularly impressed with the first half performance and said that we played much better and more skilful football than the Castle players. The Castle players fought to the end and showed great resolve. The Castle manager said after the game that Spartan were always welcome there. A good indication of the esteem the lads and Kev are held. All things considered, the injuries, the depleted team, players out of position, etc. It shows the level of coaching and the ability of the lads are second to none. Well done to you all.

Shanklin Town 2-5 Spartan Colts (9 NOV 2003)
 | On a typically wet, cold November day Spartan Colts travelled across the water to take on Shanklin Town in their reorganised league fixture.
Both teams started the game cautiously but it was Spartan who adapted to very slippy conditions first and soon began to pass the ball with confidence. Although they made many chances they failed to take advantage and midway through the half a break away attack saw the Shanklin right winger smash in from 18 yards to give Shanklin the lead. Undeterred and still full of confidence Spartan scored virtually from the restart when Nick Jennings scored from close range. Soon after Spartan took the lead when a well worked move ended with Jo Terry driving home from 20 yards.
Shanklin were quickest to start after the break and levelled after a solo run resulted with a close range effort past ‘Man of the Match’ Tom Price. This merely served to wake Spartan up and they regained their shape and began to dominate the game. Some of their play in the difficult conditions was a delight to watch and Spartan soon began to take control of the game.
Two more goals from Jennings made the game safe and Michael Privett grabbed a well earned goal to make the final score Shanklin Town 2 Spartan Colts 5.

Wimbledon Park Tigers 3-1 Spartan Colts (16 Nov 2003) Ports Cup
 | This match nearly didn't take place as both teams were in nearly identical kits and it would have proved impossible to differentiate between them. The problem was eventually resolved by plating in our training tops and some other training tops kindly loaned to them by another team on an adjacent pitch. Spartan therefore played as black/red, yellow/blacks for this game. It is also imperative that we know about injuries before the game to allow the best use of substitutes. We are all proud that injured players wish to play and do their best for the team, the commitment is admirably. But it is not doing the individual or the team any real good to play injured where we do not know beforehand. Match report follows. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Spartan Colts crashed out of the Pompey Cup with a lack-lustre display against Wimbledon Park Tigers. Before Spartan had even thought about starting the game Wimbledon had taken an early lead following some very sloppy defending. However when Spartan eventually started to play they were continually frustrated by near misses and great saves from the Wimbledon keeper.
Trailing 1 – 0 at half time it was hoped that Spartan would continue in the 2nd period where there left off the first. However the hearty Wimbledon Park forwards had other ideas and in no time at all had extended their lead to 3-0. ‘Man of the Match’ Scott Allen was solid in defence and continually attacked down the left wing but for all his efforts could not break Wimbledon down. With 10 minutes to go Spartan were finally rewarded with what turned out to be a conciliation goal from Mike Privett. Further efforts were cleared off the line (or just behind) or saved again to ensure the score stayed unchanged at Wimbledon Park Tigers 3 - Spartan Colts 1.

Limping along the line- Mac
Footnote. I do not think there was anyone playing or watching that did not feel for Scotty during the game as he endured knock after knock to finish the game looking like a loser in a boxing match. His commitment was beyond the call of duty and he refused to be taken out of the game. Scott was a very deserved Man of the Match today. (Mac) Any additional comments may be placed on the message board. Thanks. ________________________________________________________

Spartan Colts 2-4 Purbrook (7th Dec 03) Friendly
 | Tezza and Tom joined a 9 man Purbrook team for this friendly on a bitterly cold and windy Sunday morning. Jenks and James manned the goal for Spartan during the game as Tomthwarted goal attempts after goal attempt to keep Spartan out. Scotty finally scored a great goal and James was injured in an ill timed challenge while in goal. It would have been nice to see the lads play but Mac was also standing in a cold and windy goal a couple of miles away. Thanks to Bruce and Josh for joining us for this friendly and if all goes well with the league enquiry we look forward to you both becoming regular players. Meon Milton 2-3 Spartan Colts (14 Dec 2003)
 | Spartan Colts stole all three points with Nick Jennings grabbing a late winner and Hat Trick late on. Spartan had raced out of the blocks, taking the lead within the first minute after Jennings easily converted Mike Jenkins’ through ball before a Meon Milton player had hardly touched the ball. However Milton was not going to let this be a walk over and responded almost immediately to level the scores and then went in front before the break. At the half time interval Spartan re-adjusted their formation and took the game to Meon Milton once again. Spartan would have drawn level but for the Milton keeper who saved chances from Jennings, Jenkins and Scott Allen to frustrate the visitors. However a defensive mistake allowed Jennings to coolly take his second of the game to level things up for Spartan. More chances were missed and saved by both teams and it seemed the game was heading for a draw. However, Jennings stole in front of the advancing Milton keeper and cleverly curl the ball home from an acute angle to finish a well deserved hat trick and take all three points for Spartan.

Spartan Colts 0-3 Copnor NE (4th Jan 2004)
 | This closely fought game looked destined to end a 0-0 draw until with 5 minutes to go Copnor broke the deadlock and grab the point away from Spartan. It was a very tight game up until then with the best opportunities going to Spartan. However the pitch, although in good condition was heavy going and the Copnor team just had that extra edge in stamina. With the goal coming so late Spartan had to push forward in search of an equaliser allowing Copnor more opportunities which lead to them grabbing two further goals at the death to make the final score Spartan 0 Copnor 3. Havant & W'ville 3-0 Spartan Colts (22 FEB 2004)
 | Havant and Waterlooville came out winners but had to battle hard against Spartan Colts who had gone 8 weeks without a game. In a very close first half Havant opened the scoring with a break away effort mid way through the first half after Spartan had pressurised the their opponents. After the break Spartan closed down Havant and their work rate was nearly rewarded when they were denied a goal for an alleged handball. Both sides had further chances and just when the gam looked to be heading for a close with no further score Spartan’s Matt Wright unfortunately deflected the ball in to his own goal. In the closing minutes Spartan’s drive to gain something from the game gifted Havant a third and final goal.

Spartan Colts 0-2 East Lodge (29 Feb 2004)
 | It was obvious from the first minutes that this was going to be a very tight well fought battle between these two teams. With the wind favouring East Lodge in the first half the pressurised Spartan early on but as the half progressed Spartan began to play some neat football and carve openings against a strong East Lodge defence. However 90% of the game was played in midfield and it was no surprise the halftime score was 0-0. The second half proved to be a similar affair with both midfields struggling to gain total control. However it was East Lodge who made the breakthrough with a header from a corner that was deflected in to the roof of the net by an unlucky defender on the line. East lodge grabbed a second late on with another header from close range to make the Final Score: Spartan Colts 0 East Lodge 2.

Moneyfields 2-0 Spartan Colts (14 Mar 2004)
 |
Although Moneyfields took all three points Spartan colts played a large part in making this the close well fort contest it was. Moneyfields had that little bit extra quality in their game and when in front of goal that proved the decisive factor. Spartan matched Moneyfields in midfield and work hard to close them down so they were a little unfortunate to go in at half time 1-0 down.
The second half saw Spartan have the wind and slope advantage and this resulted in periods of pressure being put on the Moneyfields goal. However their solid defence restricted Spartan to long range efforts from Jenkins, Jennings, Allen and Terry. Late on Moneyfields scrambled a second following a smart save from Price in goal and a goal line clearance from Allen.
Final Score Moneyfields 2 Spartan Colts 0.

Spartan Colts 1-1 Havant & W'Ville (28 Mar 2004)
 | Spartan Colts were unlucky to leave this game with only a point as the played some of their best football since the start of the season. The first half was virtually played in the Havant half and it was no surprise when ‘man of the match’ Michael Jenkins powered home a header from a corner. Spartan continued to press Havant back and were unfortunate not to be rewarded further for their efforts. Instead they had to be content with a one-goal lead at half time. Spartan started the second half in the same dominant mood and following a sixty yard solo run Scott Allen was unlucky to see his shot saved by the Havant Keeper. As the half drew on and following the large effort Spartan had put in Havant started to have more of the game an with five minutes remaining they grabbed an equaliser to make the final score Spartan 1 Havant & Waterloovile 1.

Copnor NE 0-2 Spartan Colts (4 Apr 2004)
 | Spartan Colts finished the season in style with a well-deserved victory over Copnor North End. With the wind playing its part Spartans battle the elements and defended well restricting Copnor to long range efforts. When they had the chance Spartan manage to play some good football and deservedly took the lead after 20 minutes when Jo Terry headed home a great corner from Matt Wright. With the lead came added confidence and Spartan totally controlled the game from here on. The second half saw Spartan have the help of the wind and played some great football down both wings. It looked like the game would end 1 – 0 as the Copnor keeper was pulling off some great saves to deny Spartan adding to their lead. However in the closing moments a goal mouth scramble saw Elliot Fairweather score with a close range header to make the final score: Copnor North End 0 Spartan Colts 2
