Advanced 1/2 term camp
A succesful 1/2 term camp was held at Knightwood leisure centre during Octber 1/2 term.
Gymnasts from squad and those showing potenctial from recreational sessions were invited. The youngest gymnasts were just 4 years old while the oldest was 15!
Everyone tried hard and made new friends from other classes.
Gymnasts took part in tumbling trampette and floor drills and many achieved new skills.
The air track made tumbling practice great fun.
Well done to Chloe for her fantastic handsprings, Rob for his Back flips, Natasha for her hand stand flat backs (Or flapjacks!) on vault and Alex for her handstand hops!

We now have classes up and running at the following new venues:
CRESTWOOD COMMUNITY SCHOOL – Saturday 2pm – 3pm Recreational class
WOODLANDS COMMUNITY SCHOOL – Wednesday 7.30pm – 8.30pm Teen Recreational class
TOYNBEE SCHOOL – Recreational class Friday evening 5pm – 6pm, Teen recreational class Friday 6pm – 7.15
This brings our total number of recreational classes run by treasure gymnastics to 22 including 2 after school clubs at Beechwood Juniors and Thornhill primary. The club is keen to help improve gymnastics provision both in schools and in the community.
If your school may be interested in setting up an after school gymnastics club see Emily for more details.
DEVELOPMENT GROUP
This ½ term sees the start of our club development group. The development group is an invitation only session on a Friday night for young gymnasts who show potential in team gymnastics. The group is a bridge between squad and recreational classes. Gymnasts will be taught basic skills and preparations for more advanced gymnastics, gymnasts who attend development group will also attend their usual recreational session.
AIR TRACK
The club has recently purchased an air track which looks a bit like a long bouncy castle but is great for learning new tumble skills safely.
SQUAD MOVE TO TOYNBEE SCHOOL.
A new relationship has been formed between Treasure Gymnastics and Toynbee senior school. Squad are now training at Toynbee school, the school have agreed to store the specialist equipment we require in exchange for coaching their school after school club. We hope pupils will develop an interest in gymnastics and come along to club Sessions. The facilities at Toynbee are great and we hope this relationship continues long term.
CHRISTMAS DISCO
We are holding a club Christmas disco at Eastpoint centre on Weds the 13th of December. The disco will be open to all club members, look out for more details soon! Volunteers for parent supervisors welcome!! (Please see Jon)

NEW COACH!
We have a new coach at our Woodlands and Toynbee sessions. Her name is Becky Himsworth and she is a qualified assistant coach. She has recently moved to Southampton and was keen to get involved. Becky will be a great asset to the coaching team and has an artistic gymnastics background
JUNIOR COACHES
Finding coaches is very difficult for gymnastics (as with any sport). To try and improve this situation Treasure gymnastics are starting a new scheme in January. GCSE pupils from local secondary schools will be offered a free coaching course in exchange for volunteering hours. You should see lots more helpers in the gym!! If you know anyone who is interested in taking part in this scheme ask a coach for an information letter.
FUNDING
The club has received £1000 from British Gymnastics to go towards club funds in recognition of the work we have been doing in promoting School to Club links.
We also received funding to buy new equipment for Eastpoint Centre from the Local network fund and we have so far purchased Vaults, Safety mats, Springboards and a Double mini.
The club is currently putting together a lottery bid for a van to allow equipment such as the air track to be transported easily between venues.
A squad parents committee is also being formed to help with fundraising for new equipment and costs related to competitions.
CLUB WEBSITE
If anyone has the knowledge to help get the club website up and running we would be really grateful for a bit of your time! Please see Emily.
JUDGING COURSE
A Teamgym judging course is running in January. Judging is a great way to get involved with gym and would suit an interested parent with a keen eye for detail.
If you think you might like to qualify as a judge please see Emily for course details.
WORKING WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS
Emily is now working with Redbridge community school sport partnership as a community gymnastics coach. Her role includes teaching gymnastics in schools, giving teachers new ideas on how to teach gym and supporting evening classes. This is an exciting post that is identifying areas without gym provision across Southampton
KEY STEPS GYMNASTICS
You may have seen Emily in your school hall or even in your PE lesson this half term! She is working with Toynbee School Sports Partnership to develop a gymnastics programme called key steps. In the New Year there will be a gymnastics festival involving Knightwood primary, Hiltingbury infants and juniors, Otterbourne primary and Scantabout primary for children to showcase the skills they have learned.
Treasure gymnastics has adopted the key steps programme within its club structure to ensure that recreational classes continually compliment what children are learning at school through the national curriculum.
PHOTOSHOOT
We are planning to have a photographer in to the gym on a fly on the wall photo shoot to get some pictures of the gymnasts in action. These pictures will be available to buy.
