CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
All children should start in beginners classes unless they have previous gymnastics experience. If you are unsure which class is suitable for your child please speak to a coach.
Beginners:
A basic introduction to gymnastics, children learn the shapes that form the basis of most gymnastic moves. Using the British Gymnastics badge award scheme gymnasts in this class work towards gaining badges 7 and 6.
Improvers 1:
Gymnasts are expected to know the names of basic moves and equipment and start to begin whole skills and sequences. Gymnasts in this class have the opportunity to enter an annual friendly competition in teams and work towards attaining British Gymnastics proficiency awards 5 and 4.
Improvers 2:
This class concentrates on tidying up technique and starting to develop more advanced gymnastic skills such as round offs and “over vaults”. Gymnasts continue to work on the British Gymnastics award scheme and also have the opportunity to enter the friendly competition.
Advanced:
Gymnasts are selected from all classes to join advanced classes.
Advacnced classes train 1-2hrs and learn basic skills with attention to technique. Gymansts in the developement squad can try out for the team bi-annually.
SQUAD:
The squad trains 5-8hours a week and is made up of the most able gymnasts from all recreational classes. Gymnasts in the squad form part of a team which is entered in to the regional teamgym championships annually, with the aim of qualifying for the British championships. These gymnasts learn advanced tumbling and vault skills as well as group floor routines.
