Education/School Workshops - National Lottery Funding

The quintet is committed to working with Schools, Colleges and Universities and has been delighted to have given masterclasses and workshops across The Wessex region. The group thoroughly enjoys meeting and sharing their musical ideas and skills with younger brass players and are happy to work within music departments assisting to form new bands or ensembles. Since 1997, in partnership with The Winchester Music School, the quintet has been Ensemble in Residence at King Alfred’s College, Winchester and has been fortunate to be able to work with music students and staff.

During the Summer Academic Term 2002 WBQ has been fortunate to secure an "Awards for All" National Lottery Grant to provide Educational Concerts/Workshops in Schools across Hampshire. Each concert has included music spanning 3 centuries including music from popular television programmes, Broadway Musicals, Classical works and current cinema releases. All concerts have included elements from the National Curriculum Science and Sound Programme together with @Hands On' activities for pupils and staff from the Attainment Targets set including Listening, Appraising, Performing and Composing.

The WBQ is pleased to be able to continue its annual Education/Schools Workshop Programme and the Annual Festival 'Brass Ablaze', which brings together young musicians spanning all age range from beginners in Year 4 right up to Degree Students studying locally in the Performing Arts and Music Spheres. WBQ welcomes enquiries from School's Directors of Music and Music Curriculum Co-ordinators. Please see contacts details page for further information, costs and curriculum related matters.
