Colwall clinch another point
JASPERS 1, COLWALL WHC 1COLWALL clinched another point to add to their tally in the West Clubs North Division against Jaspers in Bristol on Saturday An uninspired first half by both teams saw Colwall's defence tested on several occasions, without many chances generated at the other end of the pitch.
The defensive combination of Colleen Rogers, Lucy Halligan, Laura Entwistle, Mandy Gowland and goalkeeper Carole Ward, supported by midfield players Sam Shail and Marie Fowler kept the score to 0-0 at halftime.
The highlight of the half was Shail's new hockey stick being smashed into pieces by a tackle from a Jasper's defender.
The second half livened up when Jaspers went ahead with a controversial goal. The apparent injustice spurred Colwall into action, and produced the best moves of the match. From one of these, Colwall drove into the Jaspers' goal area, a shot from Gemma Richards was stopped by a defender's foot, and a penalty flick was awarded.
Colwall captain Coral Handley stepped up to take the flick, and placed the ball powerfully out of the reach of the keeper to equalise.
Colwall then held on to secure a well deserved point.
