July 2008

Our Aim

Our aim is to keep Belmont Ward a safe place to live. Your Local Policing Team wants to work closely with you, Herefordshire Council and the Herefordshire Community Safety and Drugs Partnership. We will tackle the issues that affect the quality of your life and aim to make life as difficult as possible for criminals and anyone who wants to commit Anti-Social Behaviour wherever you live.

By getting involved in the local Community forums, which are open to everyone living in this area, you will be able to tell us your concerns and help decide what should be done about them. We look forward to seeing you.

P A C T
Partners & Community Together
The next area PACT meeting is to be held at Belmont Community Centre at 1900hrs on Monday 11th August 2008.
This is your opportunity to raise any issues you may have in your community with the aim of resolving thise issues. Everyone is welcome to attend and light refreshments will be provided.

Results of PACT Meeting 15/05/2008
Priority: Youths playing football and climbing on roofs:
There have been reports of youths playing football in the car park at Eastholme Avenue. Occasionally the youths are climbing onto the roofs of bungalows and entering the gardens of Brookfarm Court. This is causing alarm and distress to the predominantly elderly residents.

Action: Patrols in the area maintained by Local Policing Team. Any youths in the area to be spoken to and encounter forms to be completed and submitted. Engaged with the manager of the complex and some of the residents and regular PACT Surgeries agreed to be held in the complex every last Tuesday of the month.

If you you are suffering fom Anti-Social Behaviour,
please let us know by reporting it on

The past couple of months there have been many reports of graffiti across South Wye. This has also been a problem in and around the city centre. With combined efforts of the communities and the police two youths have been arrested and charged with criminal damage. There are still some reports of 'tags' appearing and enquiries are ongoing at the time. If you have any information with regard to this, please contact your LPT.

In May we had several reports of people having eggs and other food products thrown at their houses. Local enquiries have on occasions led us to individuals who have been spoken to.

Drug use remains an issue to the local community. The Local Policing Team is aware of this and patrols areas that are known for this type of activity. Stop searches have been performed on individuals and encounters continue if individual activities are suspicious. If you have any information, please call any of the numbers listed on this newsletter.

Whilst Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) remains an issue, it has significantly decreased in the area. Any behaviour that causes an individual harassment, alarm or distress is deemed to be ASB. All Local Policing Teams act on any form of ASB and deal with it firmly.

June brought us reports of youths riding mini-motos and scrambler bikes by the Skate Park and on the commoin land leading to the conservation area. One bike has recently been seized and two Section 59 notices have been served on individuals. A Section 59 can be served if
'an individual has been driving on common moorland/moorland/land which is not part of a road/footpath/bridleway/restricted byeway. (Contrary to Section 34 of the Road Traffic Act 1988).'

As a timely reminder, also make sure that sheds and garages are locked and secured before going out or stopping in for the night. This is a seasonal problem as most of us do get out and about in our gardens and there is a tendency to leave tools, mowers etc out on display, or in sheds/garages that we forget to lock. So please bear this in mind and lock up and ensure your neighbours do the same.

In the meantime keep your eyes peeled and let us know what is going on in your local area.

South Wye

October 2007

Drugs and those who seek to deal in them have long been a concern for people in the South Wye area - we know because you have told us, both in conversation with officers and through the PACT (Partners and Communities Together) process.

Importantly, local people have backed up their concerns with the information needed to take action against the small number in the community involved in drug dealing. That’s why earlier this month police carried out a search warrant at an address in Kestrel Road, recovering a quantity of wraps of suspected heroin and making two arrests.

Of course, the search itself was only part of a process that included months of intelligence gathering before any action could be taken on the ground. That process is still ongoing, with our enquiries continuing and the man and woman arrested on suspicion of possession remaining on police bail.

Much of this work by necessity has to happen ‘behind the scenes’, which can give the impression that nothing is happening - when absolutely the opposite is the case. The important thing to remember is that we do listen and we do act on your information, so please keep it coming.

As an example, we had several PACT postcard surveys sent in to us highlighting the particular problems in Kestrel Road in the weeks ahead of the raid. I hope the people leaving us information in this way feel suitably encouraged that they had played their part in the police actions earlier this month.

So, if you have information about drug dealing - or any other kind of crime in the local community - what can you do? The Local Policing Teams at South Wye Police Station would be happy to hear from you direct or you can pop information into the PACT postboxes which you can find across the Belmont area.

Of course, you may not want to talk directly to the police, but there is another way to pass on information without getting involved - Crimestoppers. A quick call to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 is easy to do: simply pick up the phone and tell them what you know, not who you are. No details about the caller are ever asked for or recorded by Crimestoppers, so it is totally anonymous. The results of passing on such information should, however, speak for themselves.
