VEHICLE CRIME
There were several vehicles damaged in Broomy Hill at the beginning of November. Paintwork was scratched causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage. One vehicle also had a window smashed. A Fiat parked on the Aldi car park had windows smashed overnight 12/13 November. A BMW car parked in The Monument pub car park overnight 13/14 November was badly damaged by vandals. ARSON A fire was started at the Cricket Pavillion, Widemarsh Common on 4 November. No fire damage was caused but there was smoke damage to the inside of the premises. Police enquiries are ongoing. Another fire was started in an outbuilding in Mortimer Road on 15 November. This is one of a series of fires started deliberately in the general area. Police are looking into these offences. We need your help to find who is doing this – before anyone is hurt.
STOLEN CYCLE
A Univega ‘Ram 990’ gents mountain cycle, blue with yellow writing, valued at £850, was stolen in a garage burglary in Yazor Road.
CYCLISTS An event for cyclists has been organised by the Local Policing Team. On Sat 12th January 2008 the team will be at Whitecross High School between 10am & 2pm to promote good cycling and road safety. There will also be representatives from Hereford Council and local cycle distributors. Why not come along on your cycle and have a free cycle safety check? Free promotional materials will also be handed out at the event. SEE YOU THERE!
GOOD NEWS!
A third Community Support Officer has been assigned to the Three Elms & St. Nicholas area. CSO Nigel Phillips has just completed CSO training at West Mercia Police Headquarters at Hindlip Hall. Nigel is looking forward to getting out & about on patrol and working with the local community. Please stop and say ‘hello’ when you see him.
A FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION…
Q. What do the single white lines painted on the road outside many driveways mean? A. Many people believe that they simply mean ‘no parking’ and that anyone parking there can be fined. However, the lines are only ‘advisory’, ie, advising motorists that there is a driveway there that is in use at various times. Usually motorists will comply and avoid parking there. If someone parks there no offence is committed until a vehicle needs to get in or out of the driveway and is physically prevented from doing so by the parked vehicle (Obstruction). It is the same if a driveway without a white line is blocked similarly.
PARKING IS AN ISSUE! The Local Police Team receive many complaints about vehicles’ being parked badly, illegally or just inconsiderately. Please note the ‘top five’ offences that will attract a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) costing either £30 or £60;
1) Parking on the pavement or footpath (£30). 2) Parking on bus stops (£30). 3) Parking & causing danger to other road users (£60 + 3 points on Driving Licence).
4) Unnecessary or wilful obstruction (£30). 5) Parking on double-yellow lines (note; Council Wardens deal with this – not the Police!).
So please make sure you park carefully – and avoid a FPN!
Hereford Council Wardens enforce all double yellow line offences in the city. Phone 260000 to request the wardens to patrol your area.
