BROMYARD NEWS
Lets start with a positive story, the garage at the Station is literally bursting at the seams with donated bikes for the Tanzania appeal and many more have been promised. Apologies to those who have phoned in with offers but we are overloaded at the moment. Contact has been made with container co-ordinators at Hereford and hopefully we will be able to move some of the packaged bikes out soon. My thanks to our Town CSO Pete Knight for his assistance in putting big bikes into small boxes, not as easy as it sounds.
The enquiry into the disorder at the Kebab House last month is nearing completion and will result in the prosecution of up to 7 young men, several of whom live locally. Luckily it was captured on the shop CCTV but is not pleasant to watch. Those involved have been shocked by their actions when watching it in the cold light of the interview rooms at the Leominster Custody Unit, a prime example of the effects of excessive alcohol consumption. All participants have been banned from the local pubs for the foreseeable future and a final decision will be made at the end of the enquiry by the local licensed premises committee.(BAND).
Some recent successes involving our local CSO’s and response officers has resulted in 2 disqualified drivers being caught and prosecuted. The worst offender was also a repeat offender and well over the drink/drive limit, he went straight from Leominster Custody to prison for 5 months.
On the subject of driving and motor vehicles there have been several serious accidents recently where cars have been written off but fortunately everyone has walked away in one piece. (One of those drivers will be prosecuted for the manner of his driving and poor state of his tyres.) In each incident the occupants of those vehicles were incredibly lucky to walk away without serious injury, it is only a matter of time before we have a fatal accident involving young drivers and their passengers from Bromyard. The attitude to speed and other road users from some sections of the local community is clearly evident most evenings around the Town Centre. We will be trying over the coming months to reduce this problem by enforcement and education. I would strongly advise any parent of a young driver or future young driver to make your children attend the forthcoming information evening at the Leisure Centre on Friday 25th April: 6:30pm for under 15s and 8:00pm for those over 15 due to the graphic content of some of the material. Their attendance might just prevent a tragedy.
Our main crime problem at the moment involves overnight thefts of landrovers, sometimes linked to a suitably sized trailer theft. Our main daytime problem is the theft of scrap metal/building materials from rural premises. Please make every effort to secure your property or make a note of any serial numbers of your trailers.

 | Rural Watch is ‘eyes and ears’ of the countryside
A new scheme to tackle crime in rural areas is now up-and-running in the Bromyard area, helping to provide extra ‘eyes and ears’ for the countryside.
Rural Watch has been established by the police and rural farms and businesses in a bid to deter crime in the more remote areas of the county.
“It’s similar to the established Neighbourhood Watch schemes and we hold meetings to discuss rural crimes, such as theft of scrap metal, vehicles and farm machinery, as well as house burglaries and break-ins to sheds and outbuildings,” said PC Jill Richardson, who has helped set up the scheme as part of her role as Local Police Officer for the Bromyard Rural area.
“It’s a two-way information sharing scheme, where we issue bulletins about such things as suspicious activities or unusual vehicles in the vicinity - and we in turn receive information about anything that arouses suspicions in the community.
“While crime is at a low level in Herefordshire overall, it is still present in our rural areas and that historically this has affected isolated farms and businesses as well as rural homes. Rural Watch aims to further promote the close community feel that often exists in these locations, with an ‘eyes and ears’ approach to crime prevention that brings together the police and the rural communities,” added PC Richardson.
Rural Watch is already proving its value and anyone in the Bromyard area wanting to join - and receive special stickers or sign boards for their farm or rural business - can contact PC Richardshon on 07816 548932 or the Bromyard Rural Local Policing Team on 01432 346713. You can also contact PC Richardson by email at jill.richardson@westmercia.pnn.police.uk
HOW DO I JOIN NORTH HEREFORDSHIRE RURAL WATCH? All you have to do is initially complete an application form (available from PC Richardson) and post it to- Local Policing Officer PC 3762 RICHARDSON BROMYARD POLICE STATION NEW ROAD BROMYARD HEREFORDSHIRE HR7 4AJ Mobile 07816548932.
