Burglary (Outbuildings)
v Between 5th and 7th April a shed in Clehonger was broken into and a quantity of sports equipment to the value of £240 stolen.
v Overnight 5th and 6th April a shed was broken into at Clehonger. Nothing was stolen and minimal damage caused.

v Between 25th and 26th April an outbuilding in Ewyas Harold was forced open and items removed and strewn about the area. Nothing was stolen.

Theft
v Between 3rd and 8th April four solar garden lights were stolen from a garden in Peterchurch.
v Between 22nd March and 5th April 20 tonnes of timber were stolen from woodland at Turnastone.
v Between 14th and 15th April approximately 1000 litres of diesel was drained from a bowser in Madley.
v Overnight 20th and 21st April, 200 litres of diesel was stolen from a parked HGV in Madley while the driver was asleep in the vehicle.

Vehicle Crime
v Between 7th and 8th April a van containing tools was stolen from Madley.

Theft of vehicles in neighbouring area

Between 0100hrs and 0845hrs on 5th April 2008 a short wheel base blue Land Rover registered number ***435Y was stolen from a farm in Kingstone. Enquiries regarding this theft indicate that a number of persons were involved.

Between 1700hrs on 18th April 2008 and 0700hrs on 20th April 2008, six cars were stolen from a garage at Tram Inn, Allensmore. All the vehicles have now been recovered, but five of them are write off's. The vehicles were as follows:-
v A grey Vauxhall Corsa N304*** and a green Rover 75 W399***, both which were found burnt out at the ponds at the rear of Arkstone Court, Kingstone.
v A Red Rover 45 CV03*** found in a hedge on the B4348 near to Dunswater Farm.
v A silver Ford Fiesta S577*** found with collision damage just off the B4348 onto Brampton Road.
v A silver Renault Clio VE55*** found with collision damage between Clehonger and Kingstone near to Smallbrooke. Damage was also caused to temporary traffic lights at that location.
v A VW Golf found abandoned at the bottom of the lane to Coldstone House.
v
Enquiries to date have indicated that some of the vehicles were taken early morning of the 20th April. This is an unusual offence for this area and it is clear from the areas the vehicles were abandoned that this is probably linked to local offenders, as the vehicles have visited villages in Golden Valley.

On this occasion no one was apparently injured as a result of the reckless behaviour of the offenders.

If you have any information about this offence or any other, please contact the local policing team or phone Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111. You can call Crime Stoppers anonymously and they will pay small rewards for information leading to convictions.

GROW YOUR OWN SECURITY

Everyone enjoys having a well kept, attractive garden and there's no reason why upping the security in your garden should mean otherwise.
'Defensive Planting' is the term used to describe the way you can use certain prickly plants, bushes and shrubs to deter burglars. This green-leafed security measure is not meant to replace, but to complement other security measures such as lighting, locks and alarms.
Think about using it to protect vulnerable areas such as fences, windows, boundary walls and drainpipes.
Examples of the types of plants you might use are
Berberis, which has sharp spine like prickles and as it can reach 6 ft in height is good for hedging and growing by walls.
Pyracantha is a vigorous evergreen shrub, which is great for hedging or growing under windows or around doorways.
Rosa Rugosa 'Rubra' is a flowering shrub with densely prickled stems, which can also reach 6 ft, making it excellent as an impenetrable hedge.
Holly is usually grown as a small tree or large bush and can reach up to 50 ft.
This list is by no means exhaustive. Hawthorn, Japonica and Acanthus are more examples. Ask at your local garden centre for advice.

=========================

TOP TIPS FOR A SAFER GARDEN

v Gates, fences and walls should be kept in good repair to stop intruders getting in.
v Don't leave expensive equipment like garden tools, mowers, mountain bikes, golf clubs and power tools in the shed.
v If you have nowhere else to store valuable equipment, take measures to secure your shed. Fit a closed shackle padlock to the door and bolt fittings through the door and conceal any screws. Invest in a shed alarm.
v Ensure bikes are chained together as this makes it more difficult for a thief.
v Don't leave ladders and tools lying around in your garden - these could be used to break into your home. Ensure ladders are locked to a secure fixture in the shed or garage.
v Mark your garden tools and equipment with a good quality property marking system, such as Smartwater.
v Ensure that household insurance policies cover garden and shed equipment .

On a lighter note………….

A man went to the police station demanding to speak to the man who broke into his house the previous night. He was told by the custody sergeant that he would get his chance in court.
"But you don't understand," said the man, "I want to know how he got into my house without waking my wife. I've been trying to do that for years."
