Motorcyclist dies following road collision at Much Cowarne

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision on the A4103 at Much Cowarne in which a motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries.
The collision happened on Friday, May 2 outside Fir Tree Garage at 11.13am. Two vehicles were involved; a blue Range Rover headed towards Worcester and a silver and yellow Aprillia travelling in the opposite direction.
The motorcycle rider, Mr Ainsley Smith, aged 17 from Breinton Road in Hereford, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham. He died as a result of his injuries in the early hours of Saturday.
The male driver and a passenger from the Range Rover were uninjured in the collision.
An inquest into Mr Smith’s death is expected to opened and adjourned today by the Herefordshire Coroner.
Police collision examiners began an immediate investigation into the collision. The road was closed in both directions with diversions in place, reopening at around 6pm.
A number of witnesses have already been spoken to, but police investigating the collision would like to hear from anyone else who saw it happen or saw either vehicle travelling along the A4103 immediately beforehand.
Anyone with information should contact PC Steve Wood at the Hereford Roads Policing Unit on 08457 444888.

Did you intervene to stop an assault?

Police are trying to trace three young women who made efforts to intervene and stop an assault on a man in Holme Lacy Road, Hereford.

The incident happened on Sunday, May 4, just before 3am, when the victim was walking opposite the Game Cock public house. He was approached by a small group who assaulted him, leaving the victim needing numerous staples to a head wound.

The main offender was white, in his early 20s and with light brown hair and of stocky build. He is around 5ft 11ins tall and wore a distinctive hooped rugby-style top. There is no description available of a second male who was involved.

The pair are thought to have been with a group of three young women at the time, who had made unsuccessful efforts to try and intervene to stop the assault. Police investigating the assault are keen that these three people come forward as witnesses.

Detective Constable Pete Bradbury added: “This assault resulted in some nasty injuries for the victim, from which he is now thankfully recovering. Such incidents are not commonplace in Herefordshire, so we are very keen to trace those responsible.

“We would like to talk to anyone who witnessed the assault take place - and particularly the three women who were with the offenders - or anyone who has information as to who the responsible parties may be.

“We also know that there were a number of taxis driving in the area at the time, so it may be that the driver or passengers of these may also have useful information. While the assault did take place in the early hours of the morning, it was at a time when people would have been returning from pubs and clubs and so there is a good chance they too may have seen something significant.

“Anyone who does have information can contact me at Hereford CID on 08457 444888 or if they prefer to remain anonymous, can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111,” added DC Bradbury.
