Following on from the visit of Carl Beech from
CVM a small group of men met to look at possible ways forward. In line with how Carl spoke about different levels of outreach work and using that outline, we are suggesting the following to help us in building friendship and fellowship amongst ourselves and building confidence in our evangelism to men.
There are different strands to developing ministry and mission amongst men. I am personally convinced that this is a crucial area for us to get to grips with and to work out into the life of the church and the City. I want to encourage you to be personally committed and involved in this emerging and exciting mission and ministry work in the life of the church at Hereford Baptist Church.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES FOR MEN
The aim of these activities is getting men from the church to meet together, drawing in those on the fringe of the church and also providing activities for you to invite others to.
The plan would be normally to start the evening with a brief appropriate Bible reading and prayer. In the Autumn the plan is to run one of these activities in anticipation of a Christmas event. Carl described this as level 1 type evangelism.
MEN'S SPECIAL EVENTS - A CHRISTMAS EVENT
We are looking into the possibilities of us holding a Christmas meal and speaker event, described by Carl as a lever 2 type event.
ALPHA FOR MEN
This is described as a level 3 outreach event which builds upon and is fed by social activities and level 2 events. This is something for us to consider in the future.
MEN @ WORK PRAYER
This would be really helpful to provide a regular opportunity for men to get together before work for straight talking and real praying about life and work. The aim would be that from September we will begin a regular time together from 7am, cereal and toast provided.
E-GROUP FOR MEN
We are going to look at ways in which we can set up an e-mail system so we can be in contact with one another during the working day and during the week, especially including those who travel out of the city with their work.
MEN'S DISCIPLESHIP EVENTS
The plan would be that we would invite Carl Beech back to do some seminars with us starting with the theme of being a Christian in the workplace. We will seek to provide and recommend different books and study resources to help men live out their Christian faith day by day. We can also tap into the CVM events, conferences and magazine resources. The next conference takes place in October.
