The Underdogs Triumph
 | Burghill beat Kington 6-0 on Tuesday. Ludlow beat Burghill at Burghill 4-2 on Thursday. On Saturday(June 2) Ludlow entertained Kington.
A quick check with William Hill suggested that Kington were not the favourites!
Back in the fold were Captain Peter Handley, together with a motorised trolley (and a battery that didn't work)and a bad back and Andrew Lloyd.
Young Sam Lloyd playing at four zonked two balls so far right off the first tee that not only were they out of bounds they were probably out of the county. He then proceeded to abandon his attempt on the first hole.
But eventually he got his game together and won 3 and 2 to become our hero of the day.
Ben Hughes put in another sterling performance winning 2 and 1. However his game ended in controversy. He teed up in front of the blocks on the 17th and his opponent insisted he replay the shot and suffer a two shot penalty. After consultations including one with the resident professional the correct ruling was found: replay the shot without penalty.
Matthew Davies played well and consistently to win his first league match. Dan Aldridge played well and came back so strongly that without a three putt on the last he'd have won.
Full results:
Peter Handley lost 5/3
Andrew Lloyd lost 4/2
Ben Hughes won 2/1
Sam Lloyd won 3/2
Dan Aldridge halved
Matthew Davies won 3/2
Kington had scraped home by half a point with the result hanging on the last match.
Squad members Messrs Kirkham, Morgan and Philpotts enjoyed courtesy of the course.
The course, the food and yet again the weather, couldn't be faulted.
