Kilvert writes: 'We dined at Bockleton Court, the Decies' place. Capt. Decie, a dark handsome man, was in the Engineers, but married Miss Prescott, heiress of the property, a genial impulsive cordial woman, simple-hearted, straightforward and genuine....A new house, red brick with white free-stone dressings, large, nicely arranged and furnished. Bare of timber without.'
Bockleton Court is now owned by Birmingham Education Department and used as a Field Study Centre. It was built in 1865 for the Prescott family, merchant bankers originally from Roehampton, near London.
