A Great 2007 AGM Weekend
 | KILVERT SOCIETY AGM WEEKEND APRIL 20th 2007
The annual general meeting of the Kilvert Society took place at the Bishop's Palace, Hereford. Following the business meeting, Mr Ronald Blythe, President of the Society, gave a talk entitled 'The Art of the Diarist'. Mr Blythe is a well-known author and writes regularly for the Church Times. Society members, Mr and Mrs Mike Matthews, were thanked for providing delicious refreshments.
The following morning, a seminar and video showing took place at the Radnorshire Arms Hotel, Presteigne. Society member and author, Mr John Toman, gave a fascinating lecture on 'The Quaker Influence on Kilvert - the story that could not be told.'
After Mr Toman's talk, Society member, Mr Richard Weston, showed a video made by the Society in 1948 entitled 'The Kilvert Country'. Although the video footage had deteriorated in places, it gave a wonderful insight into 'Kilvert country' fifty-nine years ago.
Mrs Heulwen Herdman, (pictured), who now lives near Peterchurch, was born and brought up in Clyro. She remembers helping to make tea for a Society visit to the village. She was able to point out on the video, various people and places of interest and generally provide very useful background information.
The weekend was brought to a fitting close with the traditional AGM dinner. An excellent meal was enjoyed at the Radnorshire Arms Hotel, Presteigne. After toasting the Queen, Kilvert and Absent Friends, Chairman, Mr Michael Sharp, closed proceedings with readings from the Diaries associated with Presteigne. Francis Kilvert's vicar, Mr Venables, often visited the town; as well as being vicar of Clyro, he was also a magistrate. |

Walk to Twm Tobacco's Grave September 22nd 2007
 | This is a view of Erwood Common, near the top of the hill.
Wednesday, 3 July 1872.
....'The solitary told us that he kept two little bounty farms in Llandeilo Graban. He kept a few fields in his own hands and occasionally went over the hill to see his land. The Anchorite and the Mayor of Painscastle had both heard of Tom Tobacco's grave, but neither knew the mysterious story of the lonely grave on the open hill, and only the Mayor could tell me the place of the grave, on top of the ridge where Llanbedr Hill marches with the Hill of Llandeilo Graban'.
