The urban singing style from Portugal. This type of singing can be used for political aims and objectives. It is usualy however concerned with love affairs, passions of the heart and longing. It came out of the dockside taverns of Lisbon and has been described as Moorish music eminating from the middle ages. Accompaniment is by guitar or twelve string Lute. Today it is sung in cafe's or bars for turists and is a purest form that is not to everyones liking. It can be hard to follow even for the portugese
Finland
Finish folk songs are traditionally accompanied by a zither. The zither is similar to instriments used in Baltic countaries. The ballard is the most popular. Kalavalaic song is the singing of poems about the myths and heroic legends of Finland and is an important part of Finnish folk song tradition.
