Phil Beer Review

I had never seen Phil Beer before, or come to that Show of Hands. He was performing at the Nightjar Folk Club at the Courtyard in Hereford. As many of you know from other reviews I have covered my partner and I are stewards at this fine Theatre. Phil Beer is in the middle of what to me seems like a grueling set of tour dates which makes me sometimes glad I am not at all as in demand as he must be. I was surprised, sometimes pleasently at his choice of material. There were some standard, although unusual root versions of American blues numbers along with the witty jokes of childhood school and tales of his local charity shop. A young lady, Miranda accompanied him for half his set who had the diction of an angel. The most atmosheric material came in the form of a Paul Simon number ;Still Crazy After All These Years,;and one might suspect that if Phil kept up this pace of touring for many more years......
