Bringing up Children. By Andrew Dwyer. No the title does not come from the Star-Trek Movie, but from one of Shakespeares plays. This place is going to be a house of information. Many people are ill informed as to how to bring up a child or children. Whatever stage you think you are at there is always something to learn. Others are blissfully unaware of the harm they inflict by bad practices. Some are abusive towards their children, sexualy and emotionaly. They need more professional help than might be available here. I earnestly implore them to seek help. Never be too embaresed to help the most precious thing in the world, your children. My Credentials I am what is known as an RSW, or residential social worker and have been doing the job for the past two and a half years. My company are hot on training which is an ongoing part of my job. I work with children in the age range of 12 to 16. I have passed a foundation course with the Open University and at present I am working towards an MVQ 3 in childcare. I have also had two children of my own, four stepchildren and have twelve grandchildren. No, correct that I now have thirteen. Statement In my world we do not label a child with doom laden titles, such as "problem", "misfitt", "aboration", "devil child", "minging". These are a society where the sterotyping of Gypsies or Jews are common place. No label should ever be used to stigmatise a child in any way. Every child is unique and has precious gifts that need to be nurtured and discovered. Our troubled children need help from those more fortunate and better able to cope with life and I hope that that is what this site will help to bring about. Over the next few weeks I shall be adding articles by me and others to this site.
