Engaging young people in the classics

The Academy is based at Monks Walk School in Welwyn Garden City on Friday evenings from: 5.00pm-8.00pm.
Ages ranging from 5yrs - 18yrs with an early years class for 3yrs-5yrs -this class lasts from 5.00pm-6.00pm.
The Academy is run by Fiona Chaney who was trained at The London School of Contemporary Dance, The Juilliard School of Performing Arts New York City and The Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance NYC. Fiona has performed and taught all over the world - amongst some are The Royal Academy of Dance,Sadlers Wells,The Barbican Theatre,Sylvia Young Theatre School,North London University. The London School of Contemporay Dance Trust-master classes.
The Academy has a caring and fun atmosphere where each students potential is realised. The growth of confidence and self esteem is of paramount importance.
This term the work of T.S.Eliot 'Old Possums Book of Cats' is being explored in all classes through dance /drama& musical theatre. Students are encouraged to learn about the background of musicals through looking at the classics from which most of them derive.
We also script write and choreograph our own work in order to develop personal creativity. We engage guest artists for mask making, costume design & theatrical make up.
Shows and exams are part of the Academys work. Students are also recommended for commercial work.
