ANGERLAND COMMON - BUNCHLEY's POND
When we announced our intentions in the WHT 2/3 Weeks ago you asked for our help in clearing a one time beauty spot namely Bunchley's Pond through to Angerland Common. We set about tackling this issue by asking WHC for their assistance. Unfortunatley the land belonged to a private owner, the Council advised us how frustrated they were that they weren't allowed onto this land and that they'd asked HCC to contact the owners. This didn't stop us as we headed off to Stevenage Land Registry Office to source the information ourselves and at our own costs.
Having found the owners we set the ball rolling for the two parties to come to an agreement in clearing the land that was now desicrated by 20 burnt out Vehicles. Even the Fire Brigade had had enough and were calling for the land to be sealed off to motor vehicles. Cries of help from dog walkers and anglers to the Council came to nothing.
We never gave up hope and pressed on, thanks to Karen Armstrong (Review Newspaper)who came to the site with James Hill and myself to witness the carnage and to speak first hand to the anglers and Mr Chavalier who was out walking his dog in between the glass and metal offerings left by the joy riders.
I'm plessed to say that on Friday 31st August 2001 the Councils contractors moved in,cleared the land and put in a blockaid.
Thanks to everyone for your support.
