CONGRATULATIONS to the First Team in Bingham-Cox VICTORY

Harpenden Rovers WON the Bingham-Cox Cup for the first time in 40 years on Easter Monday. They beat much fancied Colney Athletic 2 - 0 at Clarence Park, St. Albans City ground, with two second half goals coming from Nick Bonner.

It was a magnificent day for the team and the club, and made it 2 out of 2 Cup Final victories for the club with 3 still to go next weekend.

It was in 1962 Harpenden Rovers defeated Park Street 2-0, and to put it in perspective, it was so long ago that our ageing Club Secretary Freddie Day scored the first and made the winner in that final! This was the first time the club had won this cup, having been beaten finalists on four previous occassions.

Winning Team

The winning team with cup in hand.

Nick Bonner scores crucial first goal

Nick Bonner's pace was too much for the Colney defence as he goes to ground having side footed the ball past the outstretched keeper 17 minutes into the second half.

Man of the Match, Goalkeeper Dave Withers

The savest pair of hands in Hertfordshire, on the day, holds the cup firmly to his chest. No chance he was going to drop it today!

Centre Back Paul Martin wins another header

Rover's experienced centre half Paul Martin in action. Paul came a close second as Man of the Match to keeper Dave Withers. There are some rumours going around the club that Paul's hair is not natural, I'll leave that up to the readers to decide!

1st Goal Celebrations

Freddie Day holds the cup aloft

It's 40 years since Club Secretary Fred Day last had his hands on the Bingham-Cox Cup. That day he was the hero scoring the first and creating the second goal.
