Marking Peace in N.I . 2007
I originate from Northern Ireland (I now live In England) and as such, I was very aware of the troubles that beset that land having been born in 1970.
Many people will know that in May of this year, 2007 a historic moment occurred when Martin McGuinness of Sinn Fein and Ian Paisley of the Democratic Unionist Party agreed to work together in a power sharing executive.
I am not sure that the world though particularly the Christian world have grasped the significance of what occurred. I certainly never thought I would see the day that these two politicians and their parties would agree to work together.
These recent events caused me to reflect on my own experience in Northern Ireland though particularly a period of my life between 1988 and 1991 when inspired , I believe, by the Holy Spirit I sought to point people to Christ as the peace maker through the words ‘Christ Unites Ireland’.
I have decided following the recent historic events to place on the internet some material from the Christ Unites Ireland initiative and perhaps in my own way gave thanks to God for hearing our prayers and changing a society.
I believe faced with current problems of Darfur , Iraq, Israel / Palestine and numerous others places in the world we should ensure that we acknowledge God in the places were we have prayed for and seen significant change.
It was my intention to place materail on this page. For whatver reason the computer has now permited me to upload it. If you would like to view material photos etc please contact me on gordonjackson70@hotmail.com
