GRADING NEWS - 2ND DECEMBER 2005
Friday December 2nd 2005, was a turning point for me as an instructor of Aikido. I had the very difficult task of grading our student Colin Daniels who, is also Blind, (Visually impaired) I decided to Uke for him throughout the whole Grade. The Grading lasted for about 80 minutes. A long time for just one person.
We took him through the 5th and 4th Syllabus and included some weapon work which he recently learnt.
At the end of the session it was decided by myself and Senpai Liz Freeman to award Colin 4th Kyu (in our system Orange Belt) we believe that he certainly earned it and has worked very hard over the last few month.
Congratulations are in order and I certainly felt it a bit the following day.
As far as I am aware, This is the first time that a grade in Aikido has been awarded by one visually impaired person to another...Unless you know different.
I would like to thank Liz for all her help this year.
