During your Martial Arts training, does your Sensei teach any Spiritual aspects to His/Her teaching?

THE INTENTIONS AND WHAT THIS PAGE IS ABOUT
As far as I am aware, the humble Cane is the only legal weapon that we can carry around with us.
You do not need to be old, or infirm as the cane is now becoming fashionable again. There are many new fashionable canes about even some for women.
I am at the moment in the process designing a Kata (Form) or series of Katas (Forms) on how the Cane could be used as a weapon to defend one-self in an emergency.I am sure,that others have done this, but as a blind person I would like to find a method that works for blind and people with limited vission.
Recently, I was Teaching at a Martial arts seminar and met Master Mark Shuey.He is a true Master with the Cane. He has taught me a lot about the cane and I am still doing a lot ot research at the moment.
I hope to have a cane very soon and then I will be able to study more seriously.

There are many good Cane makers about I have looked and handled the Cane masters products and have not come across a better cane. This is just my own personal view.

ALL ABOUT THE FOUNDER OF CANEMASTERS
Mark R Shuey SR Personal Resume:
Originally from the San Fernando Valley, Southern California, Mark moved to Lake Tahoe in 1976 where he still resides. In high School and College, his primary focus was bodybuilding, Wrestling, and Swimming. Starting Martial Arts 1970 in the Chuck Norris system of Tang Soo Do, he recieved his 1st degree Black Belt in 1978 under Master Harold Gross, Master Dennis Itchakawa and Master Neil Citron, and started teaching the Martial Arts in 1979.
In september of 1999 he was promoted to 7th Degree by the I.C.H.F.
Mark has Degrees in Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon do, and Hapkido. He has a Master's Certification with USNKA (United States National Karate ASSOC.). ATAMA American Teacher's ASSOC. of the Martial Arts USMA United States Martial Arts Association), Head Weapons Instructor for Kosho Ryu, Is on the Board of Directors for the World Head of Family Sokeship Council, The Independent Karate School Association, and the International Martial Arts Association.
In March of 2002, Mark was promoted to 10th Degree Black Belt for Cane Master by the International Martial Arts Council of America ""Headfounders/Grandmasters Association". Mark is also head of Cane Instruction and Nevada State Director for the International Combat Hapkido Federation, and is Certified by World Black Belt as a Certified Instructor for their ("America in defense" Program.
Shuey was a top competitor in Martial Arts Tournaments. He was rated Competitor of the year in 1994 with the National Coalition of Martial Arts. In 1997, he was rated number 2 in overall points in the Pacific RIM Tour Tournament Circuit. Also in the same year, he was rated number 1 in Weapons and Katas in N.A.R.R.S FOR HIS AGE DIVISION AND NUMBER 2 IN OVERALL POINTS.
On November 14th, 1998 he he attended the United World Martial Arts Federation Year end banquet, and walked away with 1st place winning in each of 4 categories: Forms Katas, Weapons, Kumite (Sparring) and won overall Grand Champion in both Weapons and Form. Within that same year, Mark also took the Grand Champion in Kata's at the finals held in Lake Tahoe for the Golden Karate Assoc. (GSKA) as well as taking first place in Senior Weapons Traditional open.
After taking the National title in Senior Weapons in IMAC, Shuey was also awarded Competitor of the year by IKSA. in 1999, Mark reached his goal of taking NASKA's World and National, and overall Masters Weapons Title, and IMAC's National Title.
In 2000 he defended his World Champion title for NASKA and won top honors in the World for the Krane Rating.
Then, in 2001, Shuey ""Three/Peate" taking the national and World Titles once again for NASKA. and finally, once again finished on top in 2002 for NASKA retiring undefeated for 4 consecutive years.
In 1998, he was inducted in to the Martial Arts Masters Pioneers, and Legends Hall of Fame as a (Master Instructor), as well as 1999.
The year 2000, saw Shuey inducted in to the USMA Hall of Fame, as well as the prestigious World head of Family Sokeship Hall of Fame.
In 2001, he was honored by induction to the Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame, International Association of Karate, Kobudo, Puerto Rico Hall of Fame and USMA. Also in 2001 Mark was made (Martial Arts Pioneer) by the KempoJu-Jitsu. NET HOF. 2002 has seen inductions in to the Universal Martial Arts HOF as Master of the Year/Weapons, World Martial Arts League in Germany honored as Grandmaster of the Year/Weapons/Cane.
2003 saw G M Shuey inducted in to the Black Belt Magazine Hall of Fame as the Weapons Instructor of the year. In addition, Action Martial Arts and W.H.F.S. honored him with certificates of achievement as Weapons Instructor of the year.
Mark has been promoting tournaments in the Martial Arts since 1980, and has hoasted over 16 tournaments of his own.
Because of his love of the Cane, his Weapon of choice, he was one of the founders and now sole owner of (Cane Masters) this company has introduced the Cane to a greater audience in the Martial Arts community, as well as Senior Citizens and the physically challenged.
Furthermore, Mark travels throughout the world giving seminars on using the Cane for Self-Defense as well as exercise.
At the start of 2000, Shuey formed the Cane Masters International Association for students of the Cane and to Certify Instructors for his system, and is currently focusing his attention on teaching Senior Citizens, the Military, Police Department and the Disabled. |
THE INTENTIONS AND AIMS FOR THE CANE IN 2006
I am hoping to start the new year by introducing the Training with the Cane as part of Aikido Training with an introduction by Robin Dawkins. This will only be an introduction to see if the students like the training method.
I will myself, be I hope under the wing of Robin and hope to do a fair amount of studying with him.
Later in the year, it is hoped to introduce the Cane to Visually impaired people in the Norwich and Norfolk area, and, any other people with disabilities who may be interested.

It goes without saying that the Cane will be available to so-called normal people as well.
At the moment, I am doing a feasability study to see if their is any interest within the disabled community.

THE UK STORY
Canemaster Robin Dawkins UK distributer for all Canemasters Products.
After studying a number of styles, Shotokan, Wing Chun, Tai chi, Ju-Jitsu with Soke Kevin Pell, Un-Armed Combat in French Army, Then read about the Underwood System and contacted Clive Elliott.
I am Level 1 Instructor Defendo Underwood System of Un-Armed Combat, then came Canemasters and Mark Shuey, and after looking at the system I found all my training and learning would fit in with the Canemaster style.
I now teach regular seminars with Grand Master Mark Shuey from the U.S.A.
I will be soon teaching Canemasters System on a weekly basis.
The Cane is a very simple tool to use, and at one of Clive Elliott's Defendo Seminars I did a demonstration.
In ancient Egypt, everyone from Royalty to the common laborer had one. in fact, one pharaoh was buried with 132 of them!
In the 16th century, if the Zar of Russia saw you brandishing one, it was grounds for an instant beheading.
Early in the 1700's London gentlemen were required to procure a permit for the privilege of carrying one.
In the 19th Century, the finest design houses of europe and the United States, such as Faberge and Tiffany, offered exquisitely crafted ones for men and women.
What, you ask, could have such great appeal through the ages? THE CANE!!!!!

FIRST CANE TUITION FROM ROBIN DAWKINS 9TH DECEMBER 2005
It was a very hectic day due to the fact that I had a very busy afterrnoon. We were late getting the mats out as well....!!!
The course itself, was very interesting and after Robin had found the best way to teach Blind people we were away...
We started with basic movements and differing grips and holds on the cane. The simularity to Jo work was uncanny, the simuarity was that close Liz and I adapted some of the movements fairly easerly.
We finnished the evening with some combat defence moves and Liz and I were allowed to experiment with them.
The feedback from those that attended was very possative and we are now looking forward to bringing the Canemaster back to our Dojo on a regular basis.
I would like to thank Robin very much for giving up his time to come and teach us and all that he is doing for us.
In return, I am looking forward to Teaching Aikido at his Dojo during the coming years and very much looking forward to learning the Cane.
