Are you interested in climbing, or walking on the hills of Wales, the Lakes, Scotland, the Alps and Nepal. Then the Hertfordshire Mountaineering Club may be of interest to you. The Hertfordshire Mountaineering Club, or the HMC as it is known to the members, is an active and friendly mountaineering club based at the Sun Inn, Lemsford, near Welwyn Garden City, Herts, meeting there every Tuesday evening at 9.30pm.
The HMC has over 100 members from all over Hertfordshire and beyond. Trips to the hills are organised at least once a month throughout the year, and during the winter lectures are organised on the various aspects of mountaineering, either at the Sun Inn, or in North Wales.
But we hear you say, there are no Mountains in Hertfordshire. That is why the HMC was formed in 1958 in Stevenage Old Town, to bring together like minded people and arrange trips to Wales, the Lakes, Scotland, the West country and further afield, to share travel costs and mountain experiences.
The club organises weekends away in the UK & overseas trips including Tour de Monte Rosa, Italy (2006), Grindelwald, Switzerland (2004), Yosemite Valley, California (2003) and Mardi Himal, Nepal (2002). In 2001 & 2002 the club went to Arolla in Switzerland. This year the club is returning to France for 2 weeks. There are also the regular monthly trips to various parts of the UK.
