Fields and Footprints.
Field Names Progress. The appeal for information on field names has struck gold with many prominent local landowners providing Deeds, Bills of Sale, Maps and other historical papers documenting Field Names - some as far back as the late seventeen hundreds. So far the investigations have concentrated on Strickland Ketel with the majority of that Parishes Field Names already in the bag. Curiously, the land ownership pattern in Strickland Roger appears a little different to that of Strickland Ketel. The land has remained, by and large, in smaller packages which means more work for the researchers. Why this should be is a matter for conjecture. Perhaps being more hilly it was a tad less attractive to buyers?
Pennington's Footprint. Readers of the first Burneside Heritage Newsletter might be interested to learn that Pennington's Footprint has been found! (Article: "Bigfoot seen in Woods"). The footprint and initials carved in 1820 have since been enclosed on private lands so it would be unfair to disclose its exact location. However an intrepid BHG Group member has captured it, (through the wonder of digital photography),for posterity and the snap will, no doubt, turn up in the project Exhibition planned for Autumn 2007. |
