 | GUIDING IN KENDAL
Welcome to Guiding in Kendal, where this worldwide organisation for girls and young women is very active.
A total of 22 units provide regular weekly meetings for :-
GUIDES 10 years and over 8 Units
BROWNIES 7 years and over 11 Units
RAINBOWS 5 years and over 3 Units
At the last annual count this involved :
150 Guides
220 Brownies
46 Rainbows
Within the weekly meetings, a balanced programme seeks to help girls both to develop skills and confidence as individuals, and to learn to work with and help others in small groups. In addition, many Units give their girls the opportunity, often of their first holidays on their own, through Camps for Guides and Pack Holidays for Brownies which are always the highlight of the year.
In response to recent requests from girls, it is hoped soon to re-open the Kendal Ranger Unit for girls aged 14 and over.
To provide all this requires many adult leaders who give their time and talents voluntarily, but of course they also get great enjoyment from being with the girls.
Young Leaders aged 14-18 are also invaluable helpers in Units and this gives these youngsters the opportunity to learn leadership skills.
As Guiding continues to be so popular, new leaders are always needed and a leader qualification (based on NVQ principles) enables any adult with or without previous guiding experience, to be trained for this role. A team of Commissioners and advisors gives continuing support to Unit Guiders.
