WELCOME TO LEVENS CHOIR, KENDAL, CUMBRIA
Levens Choir started with a few friends meeting weekly in Levens village school in South Cumbria to indulge their mutual passion for choral music. Since then it has gone from strength to strength under the guidance of its founder and Musical Director Ian Jones to its present size of approximately 50 members, drawn from a wide area of Cumbria and North Lancashire.
Now in its 37th season, the Choir has established a reputation for high performance standards and innovative programming. The repertoire, sacred and secular, light and serious, is challenging and ambitious.
Levens Choir has performed to great acclaim in such illustrious venues as St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, York Minster, Pershore and Tewkesbury Abbeys and both Worcester and Ely Cathedrals, as well as regular Cumbrian venues such as Kendal Parish Church and Cartmel Priory to name but two.
The Choir is fortunate in having many members who take on solo roles or who are talented instrumentalists, thus enabling the choir to present varied and interesting programmes.
In autumn, 2008 the Choir enjoyed a successful tour to Suffolk where we sang in Long Melford Church, Framlingham Church and Ely Cathedral.
In 2009 the Choir stayed closer to home spending a Day in the Dales, singing in Conistone, Kettlewell and Arncliffe churches.
In 2010 the Choir visited Dorset, calling at Worcester Cathedral on the way.
Last year, on 17th September, we visited Lanercost Priory and Wreay Church for an informal recital.
This year, we return to Dorset with a chance to sing in Sherborne Abbey.
