LEVENS CHOIR, KENDAL, CUMBRIA
 | WELCOME TO LEVENS CHOIR, KENDAL, CUMBRIALevens Choir started with a few friends meeting weekly in Levens village school to indulge their mutual passion for choral music. Since then it has gone from strength to strength under the guidance of its Musical Director Ian Jones to its present size of approximately 50 members. The musical repertoire is extremely varied and includes music from 'Cats', grand works such as the Verdi Requiem, part-songs in 16-part harmony, and such triumphs as the Rachmaninov Vespers sung in Cartmel Priory and Kendal Parish Church, and the Bach, St. Matthew Passion in the URC, Kendal. The choir particularly enjoys performing music by contemporary composers and has had recent success with works penned by local composers, some of whom are members of the Choir. Levens Choir does not confine its activities to the local area. Two years out of three sees the choir packing its bags and boarding a coach to experience singing in exciting venues in other parts of the country. Past tours have included Scotland and the Borders, the Midlands and the Marches, memorably in Tewkesbury Abbey, Worcester Cathedral, York Minster and Stirling Castle.

CAROL SINGING, 2007
This year's carol singing collection was in aid of the South Lakes Society for the Blind who provide care and support for local people who are blind or partially sighted. They have a wonderful caring and committed team who help many elderly folk suffering from macular degeneration, a condition which blights many people in later life. The Choir sang in the Library and the Westmorland Shopping Centre, from 10am until 12 and collected the healthy sum of £291.35. Not quite so much as last year, but maybe the weather was against us - oh, and the sub-prime mortgage thingy.
We'd like to thank all who contributed to our collection, some of whom lingered and joined in. Thanks also to the nice man from Wilkinson's Camera shop who took this photo for us.
Watch out for us again next year when we'll be collecting again for a local charity. | |
