About the Club

WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE

The green is situated at the rear of Queen’s Gardens in Station Road, Sedbergh. Access to the green is through the gardens if walking or between the last two bungalows at the right hand side of Queens Drive if in a car.

Records show that the Club is almost 100 years old and the original agreement (which has not been altered) between Sedbergh Parish Council (the owners of the green) and Sedbergh Bowling Club was signed by both parties on the 29th March 1911.

The Club is CASC (Community Approved Sports Club) approved and registered. There are no restrictions to membership and the green is available for use at any time during the season except for Club afternoons on Sunday and Wednesday and League match times. Club afternoons are restricted to members only.

Visitors are welcome at other times on payment of the fee shown on the honesty slot in the Clubhouse wall. We ask that visitors wear suitable shoes with flat soles and no heels and that care is taken not to damage the green.

During the year we have various competitions and Friendly matches which can be seen on the Our Events page.

Our competition held on Spring Bank Holiday Sunday is an Open Doubles. This is open to any Crown Green Bowling Association registered member. The secretary accepts entries on a first come first served basis from the 1st January. (See events and officials pages)

Other competitions are restricted to our own Club members. We have the Norman Hoggarth singles knockout and other Round Robin competitions. During June, July to mid August there are 4 knockout singles competitions ongoing and members arrange their own dates and these culminate in the four finals held on President's Day. Towards the end of the season we hold a Club Pairs knockout competition. The singles competition results are used to work out handicaps.

Currently we have a team in the Kendal and District League, two teams in the South Westmorland Senior's League (i.e. aged 60 years and over) and a team in the South Lakeland Rural League

Spectators are welcome to come in and sit down and enjoy the bowling and the wonderful surroundings to the green. Refreshments i.e. tea and coffee are available when the canteen is open.
