A Short History of the Team
Welcome to the Westmorland Step and Garland Dancers, better known locally as "The Cloggies" The team was formed 25 years ago, in 1976, with the aim of learning some of the traditional Westmorland Clog steps, which were in danger of being forgotten. Since then our repetoire has grown to include several different styles of clog and morris.
We are a mixed group of adults and their families who enjoy dancing and playing traditional music together. During the Spring and Summer months the team can be found dancing throughout South Lakeland. We also attend folk festivals and dance weekends all over the country. We have represented Great Britain at international festivals in france and russia and have twice been guests of Kendals twin town of Rinteln in Germany.
Where-ever we go our aim is to keep the spirit and enthusiasm of traditional English dance alive.
The winter months are set aside for practising and learning new dances.
We meet on Monday nights during the Autumn and Winter at The Beck Community Centre,Esthwaite Avenue, Kendal from 8 - 10 pm
If you would like to have a go at dancing or playing in the band, just turn up, we would be pleased to welcome you. |
