Ashton Town Goal Of The Season 2004-05
The results of the Ashton Town Goal Of The Season are as follows:
1st - with 34% of the votes
5/10/04 Darwen (A) – Paul Atherton
Paul Atherton’s six goals in our 7-1 win was a memorable performance, and his sixth was probably the best one. Twin brother Karl played a great ball in behind the defence that Paul collected in his stride and beat the keeper with a rasping 20 yarder into the top corner to clinch an amazing double hat trick.
2nd - 28% of the votes
5/2/05 Nelson (H) – Paul Prescott
Our third goal in a 4-1 Division Two Trophy win began with a neat build up down the left involving Karl and Paul Atherton which split the Nelson defence, and when the ball was played into Paul Prescott, he beat the keeper with a delightful chip into the top corner of the net.
3rd - 17% of the votes
18/12/04 Holker Old Boys (A) – Paul Atherton
Our first two goals in a 3-2 win came as a result of good moves. The first goal saw Martin Hastings find Phil Holland wide on the right, and from his cross into the penalty area, Paul Atherton rose to power a header into the top corner of the net.
4th - 14% of the votes
11/12/04 Daisy Hill (A) – Mike Rhead
The winning goal in the Division Two Trophy game came five minutes from the end of extra time, when Mike Rhead volleyed home Steve Ellaby’s cross from 10 yards to grab the winner. Not only a good goal but important in the context of the rest of the season.

18/12/04 Holker Old Boys (A) - Paul Atherton
In the second half of the game at Holker, another good move started by Aaron Turner led to Karl Atherton playing Paul in on goal, and he tucked away his and our second goal with a shot from inside the box.
28/09/04 Padiham (A) - Richard Sharpe
After an excellent first half display when we went in 1-0 up, we eventually lost 4-1, but our goal was a good one. Martin Hastings played the ball wide to Richard Sharpe on the left, and after a great first touch, Richard advanced into the box and finished with a powerful shot under the keeper. |
