Society Formation
On Wednesday 17th October 2001, "Bolton Derelict Railways Preservation Society" (BDRPS) was formed. Although only a small dedicated few, we are committed to trying to protect and promote Bolton's derelict railways for future generations to enjoy. After considerable discussion, we believe the derelict Bolton to Bury line warrants protection and ultimate restoration. Potential exists to operate an "isolated" section of preserved line within Bolton, with the possibility of creating a "new" station at Darcy Lever.
In the longer term, a solution or diversion may be feasible to overcome the difficulties created by housing on the line at Bradley Fold and restore the line back to Bury.
A decision upon our request to get the Darcy Lever and Burnden Viaducts listed should be known in the very near future. If we are successful we will try and do the same with the "restored" Wellington Street Viaduct at Bury, and any other structures of merit.
