What you get for your money
Full Membership is still £40 for the season and includes: Fifteen 2-hour meetings at Nelson House when you can learn how to speak in public, practise and receive feedback, Presentation of the Speakers Manual, Joint meetings with other clubs in the Area, and Friendly support and advice.
The Speakers Manual describes in detail the ten stage learning process. The following aspects of Speech Making are described and how they can be learned and practised is presented;
Making a start, Mean what you say, Speech construction, Use of gestures, Use your voice, Vocabulary and word pictures, Use of notes, Smile please, Audience rapport, The Masterpiece.
However, the Manual contains much more guidance and advice on other things such as chairmanship, business presentations, lecturing, debating, use of microphones and much, much more.
Being a part of the Association of Speakers Clubs also means that members can experience a broad spectrum of speech making and organisational abilities, as detailed below;
Burnley and Pendle Speakers Club is part of the Association's North Pennine Area along with six other clubs in the locality. The North Pennine Area is part of the Association's Western District with two other areas in the region. There are eight districts right across Great Britain that form the Association.
This structure allows members, if they wish to, to enter Club competitions and perhaps progress to Area, District and even National contests.
In addition, each level of the organisation have officers that run the organisation. Each Club, Area, District have a conference and AGM as well as the overall National Conference and AGM. |
