Alice Hartley b1818 married Henry Smith on 16 Dec 1844 at St Bartholomews, Colne.
She already had 2 daughters Margaret Hartley b 1839 and Mary Ann b 1841. |
| |
Henry & Alice went on to have 4 sons - William 1845, James 1847, John 1848, Henry 1852.
They lived in Lenches, Great Marsden. |

Margaret (Alices daughter) had a son which she named Smith Hartley (13 Jan 1857), presumably after her step-father. |
| |
It is said that Margaret died soon after the birth, I haven't found her burial but she certainly seems to have disappeared. |

Smith was brought up by his grandparents Henry & Alice and he was sole beneficiary in Henrys Will. |
| |

Alice died 24 March 1876 and Henry died 2 March 1890, both are buried in the churchyard of Winewall Inghamite church along with Henrys Uncle James Smith who died in 1846. |
