Player of the month Season 07/08
August 2007
Paul Garland wins the award for two impressive displays from fullback, including a MOM performance versus Sidac on his debut. Paul also managed to get an assist in both of the matches and won the award ahead of close competition from Dan Smith and Craig Butcher.
September 2007
Craig Butcher wins the award after scoring an impressive 6 goals in 5 games during the month, including goal of the season contenders versus both Prescot and Boilermakers. Craig also collected the MOM award in the victory at Prescot and collected a number of assists throughout the month.
October 2007
Lee Roberts wins the award for October. Lee gave assured displays in victories at Cronton Villa and Cardinal Newman, along with a solid performance in the league victory versus Thatto Heath. Lee faced stiff competition this month from Craig Butcher & Tim Mulligan (both 6 goals in 4 games), Leigh Veidman (MOM at Malpas hitting 4 goals and close second for MOM award in Cronton Villa & Cardinal Newman victories). October also saw Dan Smith on top of his game with MOM awarded to him in the 4-0 victory over Thatto Heath. Lee was also awarded the MOM award in Liverpool County Cup victory at Cardinal Newman.
November 2007
Another highly successful month for Greenfield saw the team reach the top of the league table and also progress in both the Hospital Cup and the Liverpool Cup. Chris Duffy wins the award after two man of the match displays in the opening two matches of the month (Pilkington's and Old Instonians). Chris managed a goal in each of these games as well as a high level of performance in the Eccleston United and Royal Oak matches that followed. Also due a mention this month, yet again Craig Butcher and Tim Mulligan (five goals each in November) and Leigh Veidman who scored an impressive 3 goals in 4 games from midfield.
February 2008
A mixed month for Greenfield. February saw the team knocked out of both the Liverpool Cup and more disappointingly after a poor performance a quarter final defeat in the Northern Cup. On a positive note, both league games were won, maintaining the teams healthy league position. Player of the month for February was Leigh Veidman, with 3 goals in 4 games from right midfield and a man of the match performance in the 5-2 victory over Prescot. Others to have a strong month include keeper John Burrows who looked to have found some good form including a man of match award in the Naylorsfield defeat and Phil Barrigan who had another steady month at fullback.
March 2008
The month started with a poor defeat at Boilermakers and Greenfield looked very poor bar Matthew Innes who gave Greenfield some respectability with his two goals and a fine MOM display. One of Greenfield's best performances of the season was away to then top of the table Bold Rangers. There were impressive performances all over the park, none more so than Rob Ablewhite, Tim Mulligan and Paul Garland. Victories over Rainford and Knowsley South followed, but the performance in both of these games was nowhere near the standard that we should be performing at. Player of the month for March 2008 is awarded to Leigh Veidman for his excellent contribution away at Bold Rangers FC (1 goal) and his double goal contributions in the final two games of March (Leigh also scored the opener in the abandoned game versus Sidac Social Res in the Tom Worrall Cup match).
April 2008
8 game in an action packed month that saw Greenfield win the Division One Title despite almost half of the squad injured! The month started with Leigh Veidman hitting goals in each of the first 4 games of the month despite playing with an injury. Matthew Innes also produced two fantastic performances with MOM displays versus Sidac Social Res FC and Penlake in a match where he got all four of Greenfield's goals. Craig Butcher continued his fantastic goalscoring feats of earlier this season as he hit 6 in the 8 games this month. Whilst at the back Mark Bishop put in some assured performances.
Player of the month for April was awarded to Rob Ablewhite for his impressive form during April both on the wing and in central midfield in a patched up Greenfield team. Rob was awarded MOM versus Eccleston United FC where he scored two goals, one of which a goal of the season contender as he lobbed the oppositon goalkeeper from the halfway line. Rob also scored Greenfield's goal in the Tom Worall Cup Semi-Final defeat as a largely depleted team went down 2-1 to a hard working, but poor quality Junction side.
May 2008
Just three games, in which with the league already won and our squad completely decimated by injuries Greenfield faced a fixture list of 3 games in 6 days. A defeat by Knowsley South FC was followed with a comfortable victory over Junction FC and a 2-2 draw at home to Bold Rangers FC in a match where Greenfield dominated but failed to convert their chances (hit the woodwork 3 times).
Good performances from Tasker and Ablewhite this month, and impressive performances in goal from Leigh Veidman playing their due to his injury and helping the team out with so many men unavailable.
Player of the month was awarded to Craig Butcher, one man who did have something to play for this month (Divison One Golden Boot). Craig scored four goals in the three games and has finished the season with 32 goals in as many games.
