Match Reports
Bromley Cross 1 Panthers 5
An excellent start to the season for the Panthers winning 5-1 with an outstanding performance all around from this young squad.3 Superb Goals from Tom Ward earning him the Man of the Match. Excellent performances from Elliot, Zac and Andy in defence plus an all round skilfull display of football from the midfield consisting of Kurt Brockley, Chris Lloyd and the well improved Anthony Cregan. Not forgetting some excellent saves in the last 10 minutes from Zac Millington. The score hardly reflects the game as the Bromley Cross Keeper pulled off some superb saves.
Panthers v Bolton County Aces
A match that the Panthers really wanted to win after our defeat at the hands of the Aces in the Semi-Final of last seasons cup, all be it the hand of the Aces that lost us that one!!
The first half was dominated once again by the Panthers, shot after shot on the aces goal with not much joy, it was one of those days where it just wasn't going in. Finally a great goal from young Adam Larkin. The Panthers had the lead they deserved, but it didn't last for long as the Aces drew level. The second half saw the Panthers battling for every ball but too their dismay the Aces scored again. A contentious penalty decision in the last five minutes of the game didn't help the Panthers to their first defeat of the season. This will be one to avenge at the Aces ground. Another outstanding performance from the man of the match Anthony Cregan.
Panthers v Bolton Lads Club
Another excellent start to the game for the Panthers, they battled well for the ball and dominated much of the first half, a break through came when Tom Ward and Adam Larkin scrapped for the ball in the Lads Club area, Tom managing to scramble the ball into the net. The lads club made a few changes at half time with a big centre forward lad causing endless amounts of trouble.
Finally the Lads Club drew level and the game was really on. It was end to end stuff, with a few dodgy decisions again going against the Panthers.
Another excellent display from the lads with outstanding performances from Greg, Tom and young Andy Wilkinson. Man of the Match Greg.
Panthers 6 Hindley Juniors Terriers 3
An excellent game with chances being created by either side. An early goal from Hindley put the Panthers chasing the game, a great run down the right wing from Adam Larkin and a battle in the box with Tom Ward and the Hindley defence produced the equaliser for Ward and the Panthers. The next goal was an excellent pass across the midfield from Ward to Chris Lloyd who hammered the ball into back of the net. Hindley kept on battling and put up an excellent display of football but the Panthers took control by half time going in 3-1 up with another goal from Tom Ward. The 2nd half was equally as exciting with Hindley pulling another goal back to make it 3-2. The Panthers made 3 substitutions in midfield but left their excellent defence of Gregory and Elliot untouched. Chances were fast and thick for both sides but the turn came when Zac Burton scored a cracking goal to make it 4-2. The Panthers sat back for a short while and the Terriers kept on battling earning themselves a corner which was somehow knocked into the back of the net to make it 4-3. However the Panthers were not going to concede this one so easily and Zac Burton struck again to make it 5-3. The final blow came when Elliot passed the ball up the left wing to Chris Lloyd who passed the ball through midfield where Tom Ward fought off the Hindley defenders to pass it through to Andy Wilkinson who sealed the game with goal number 6. Excellent performance from both teams but a well deserved win for the Panthers to take them top of the league. Man of the match for the Panthers was a close run thing with Elliot just pipping Gregory Bird at the post. Well done lads keep up the good work !!!!
Ladybridge Athletic 1 Panthers 3
An important top of the table clash between Ladybridge Athletic and Horwich St Mary's Panthers signalled an exciting match and it certainly lived up to it. A good positive early start from Ladybridge with a couple of attempts on the Panthers goal set up a cracking match. Ladbybridge No 7 Tom just missed scoring the first goal when his shot hit the bottom of the post and rolled out of play. The Panthers finally came alive after 10 minutes and the game was end to end with chances falling to both teams. A break through finally came towards the middle of the first half when Panthers No 4 also called Tom hit the back of the Ladybridge net to open up the scoring and the game. The second half was even more exciting than the first half with endless amounts of pressure from both teams. But it was the Panthers who struck again with an excellent pass to Chris Lloyd on the left wing who made sure his shot found the net. with a goal to remember. Ladybridge increased the pressure and the Panthers were holding strong until the ball was intercepted in the middle of the pitch by the Ladybridge No 10 who took the ball from just beyon the half way line, shot and scored a corker of a goal. Ladybridge fired theirselves once again and the battle was on. The pressure was on the Panthers goal with Zak Millington in the nets pulling off a fantastic save which looked destined for the top right hand corner but still the Panthers kept their lead. The defence worked wonders to clear the endless amounts of shots coming from the Athletic. Two minutes before the end of the match Ladybridge attacked again but the ball was well cleared from the back of the Panthers excellent defence consisting of Zac Burton and Elliot Lee and intercepted just after midfield by striker Tom Ward, who kept his cool after clearly going past the Ladybridge defenders with only the keeper to beat Tom made sure that the Panthers were going to win by making it 3-1. An excellent performance from both teams and well done to the Panthers with their solid defence, athletic midfield of Chris Lloyd, Anthony Cregan and Adam Larkin and good strikeforce. The Panthers man of the match went to Striker No 4 Tom Ward but the lads won the match with a solid team performance. Special thanks to Andy Wilkinson who supported his team from the sidelines!!!
