Local Mental Health Helpline 0500 639000 ************************************* What is Dementia? Dementia is a general term for a range of physical conditions affecting the brain. It affects a person’s ability to think, reason, speak, to remember and make decisions. Personality and behaviour can change. There are many forms of dementia, Alzheimer's being the most common form.Concerned about someone who is confused and forgetful?See your GP as soon as possible. He will probably refer you to a consultant at the Memory Clinic. It is important to get an early diagnosis as there are some dementia drugs available for people in the early to middle stages of Alzheimer's. These drugs are not a cure and are not effective for everyone but may improve mood or slow down memory loss. Find out as much as you can about the illness as this will help cope with caring. After a diagnosisCaring for someone with dementia can be emotionally and physically draining and the carer may feel lonely and isolated. If you are the main carer it is important to get support for yourself at an early stage, for the sake of your health and that of your loved one.WE CAN HELP************************************* What the Blackpool and Wyre Branch Offers
