This site is a celebration of the former Preston-based North West Morris team, the Royal Lancashire Morris Dancers. In particular, it is an opportunity for me to remember my own time as a dancer with the team, from late 1989 to early 2000.
I had many happy times with the team, but also too many sad ones: too many funerals! One of my first performances with Royal Lancs, if not the very first, was in 1990 at a memorial service at Alston Hall for team founder Richard Boswell, who had died the previous year. In 1999, the team's last performance without help from Preston Royal was at a memorial service at Lancaster University for dancer Jeremy Boothroyd, who died in a diving accident that year.
The photographs on the site are drawn from the Archives CD ROM prepared by musician Bob James of Garstang shortly after the team merged with Preston Royal Morris Dancers to form the current Royal Preston Morris Dancers. Many of the photographs in the last ten years of the team were ones my wife and I had taken during the team's many performances.
