Deliverance

Not a film for the faint hearted! Nor an everyday tale of hillbilly life. However, it does include the famous 'duelling banjos' scene. This is where most people's knowledge of 'old time' music begins, and probably ends. Hands up all you banjo players out there who have been asked to play 'that tune'.

Soundtrack CD

Probably of more interest than the film itself is the so-called soundtrack CD, which includes much music not featured in the film.

Long Riders

This tale of the James Gang is worth watching in its own right, but also has an excellent soundtrack by Ry Cooder and friends and features interesting dance scenes. There is a soundtrack album available, which includes some music not heard in the film and leaves out some as well.

Jesse James Celebrated In Song

BALLAD OF JESSE JAMES

Jesse James was a lad that killed many a man.
He robbed the Danville train.
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
Has laid poor Jesse in the grave.

It was Robert Ford, that dirty little coward,
I wonder how he does feel;
For he ate of Jesse’s bread and slept in Jesse’s bed
And laid poor Jesse in the grave.

Chorus
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
His children they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
And laid poor Jesse in the grave!

It was his brother Frank who robbed the Gallatin bank
And carried the money from the town.
It was at this very place they had a little chase,
For they shot Capt. Sheets to the ground.

They went to the crossing not very far from here,
And there they did the same;
With the agent on his knees he delivered up the keys
To the outlaws Frank and Jesse James.

Chorus
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
His children they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
And laid poor Jesse in the grave!

It was on Wednesday night, the moon was shining bright,
They robbed the Glenville train.
The people they did say, for many miles away,
It was robbed by Frank and Jesse James.

It was on Saturday night, Jesse was at home,
Talking with his family brave.
Robert Ford came along like a thief in the night
And laid poor Jesse in the grave.

Chorus
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
His children they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
And laid poor Jesse in the grave!

The people held their breath when they heard of Jesse’s death
And wondered how he ever came to die.
It was one of the gang called little Robert Ford,
He shot poor Jesse on the sly.

This song was made by Billy Gashade
As soon as the news did arrive.
He said there is no man with the law in his hand
Can take Jesse James when alive.

Chorus
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
His children they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
And laid poor Jesse in the grave!
