This is the last match report of last season, to give you a taste of what this seasons reports will be like....
Station 2 v Feniscowles 1
(M. Slater, Hopwood)
Station FC defeated Feniscowles 2-1 last night to give their promotion hopes a much needed boost. Stand-in manager Jamie Hopwood was able to welcome back a few long term absentees the team - Johnny Lincoln and Danny Finney returned after several weeks on the sidelines. Station looked strong throughout; Paul Slater, back from a foot injury returned in goal, new signing Attilio Shinks partnering Finney in defence, Hopwood, Lincoln and Mark Slater provided a strong midfield and Danny Finney played the lone strikers role.
Feniscowles found it hard to break down Station, who at times looked like a team ready for the step up to division two. Finney and Shinks looked solid in defence and showed composure on the ball. The Preston Old Road outfit completely dominated the opening stages of the game, missing several early chances. However, all that pressure paid off as Station finally took the lead when Mark Slater picked up the ball in midfield surged forward to see his shot curl into the right hand corner. It was a deserved lead.
The scores remained the same at half time, despite Station peppering the Feniscowles goal. Midway through the second half, with Station still well in control Lincoln squared the ball to Hopwood at the edge of the area. The midfield starlet hit the ball first time into the top right hand corner to double Stations lead. Hopwood, who turned down a deadline day bid to Blackburn impressed down the right hand side. Graeme Souness will no doubt be disappointed to see Hopwood staying loyal.
Feniscowles did eventually pull one back late on in the game after some sloppy defending. However, Station kept their nerve to avoid a repeat of last weeks last minute defeat.
After the game, Hopwood refused to comment on recent allegations of fielding ineligible players for the past 6 weeks. However, he did comment on the referee's performance, 'He was utter sh*te again. Stevie Wonder has got better eyesight'.
