Station shattered by Windows
Sapphire Windows 5 – Station Hotel 4
A dismal defensive display resulted in another defeat for Station Hotel FC last night, with Sapphire Windows running out 5-4 winners. The game was played at a furious tempo, resulting in end to end chances for either side. However, as in their opening 4 games of the campaign Station started sluggishly in defensive, and gave possession away in midfield too easily - Sapphire stormed 3-1 ahead by half time.
New signing Paul Warnock was introduced to the fray at half time; the centre forward was drafted in at the last minute due Lee Kenny failing a late fitness test with a back injury, and Damian Tabbinor also having to pull out due to a gout infection on his little toe. An unknown trialist completed the Station line up. Sapphire began the second half, much like the first as they scored another early goal from a set piece to go 4-1 in front. Manager Jamie Hopwood, who had a difficult game on the right wing, was visibly furious at the state of the defending and the lack of cohesion in midfield; a few positional changes were inevitable. Warnock, hauled up front and Lysons, changed to central midfield, pulled two goals back midway through the second half with delightful finishes.
However, just as it looked as if Station would repeat last weeks comeback they fell 5-3 behind as Strahan lost possession on the edge of his own area. Warnock completed his brace with only seconds to spare, but it was too late for Station who have yet to find their first win of the season after 4 games. Hopwood confirmed after the game that Warnock will pen a 3 year deal to bolster the Station front line.
