Thwaites clinch vital win!!
Thwaites FC grabbed a crucial win on Sunday in the 7-a-side league edging
past P & B FC 1-0 in a one-sided affair. It was the first win of the season
for the brewery team. The two points gained saw them leap-frog Sundays
opponents P & B off the bottom of the league after a series of dismal
results had left them in the relegation mire. It is a massive result for
last seasons cup-winners who will now be looking to capitulate on this
result in order to prevent being involved in the relegation dog-fight come
the end of the season.
Defender Damian Tabbinor, who has been in fine form of late capped a solid
performance with a great goal as he converted when put through one on one
with the keeper. This sent the fans into raptures in the Blackburn Rovers
Indoor Centre. Tabbinor nearly scored the greatest goal in Thwaites
roller-coaster history as he stormed up-field from defence, dribbling past
almost the entire P & B team. However, he struck the woodwork from the edge
of the box. The ball was then cleared away to safety much to the relief of
the P & B defence.
Tabbinor's goal proved to be enough to separate the sides. Midfielder Jamie
Hopwood nearly capped another brave performance with the chance of doubling
the scores in stoppage time when he was one-on-one with the keeper. However
he came rushing to the edge of the box and closed down Hopwood's shot.
Thwaites manager Dominic Southworth has refused to comment on stories of a
bust-up between players Sean Tormay and Dominic Hopwood. The duo appeared to
have an argument during Sunday's clash. Hopwood left the Bric straight after
the game and is believed to have missed training yesterday. Jamie Hopwood,
picked up a knee injury and could miss Thursday's game. However, Thwaites
can welcome back Mark Slater, Simon Tipton and Paul Sankey in what should be
a strong line-up.

team. Skilful - gave the P & B defence a grilling.
J.Hopwood 8 - Another consistent performance from the midfield whizz-kid.
S.Tormay 8 - Currently enjoying a rich vein of form.
