Hopwood fires parting shot...again!!
Thwaites midfielder Jamie Hopwood is again skating on thin ice with manager
Gary Targett after the outspoken star again backed Damian Tabbinor to
replace him. Hopwood claimed, ' Well I have said it before but I think it
would be a great step forward for the club to appoint Damo (Tabbinor) as
manager. He wasn't given a fair crack of the whip at the start of the season
but he has grown in confidence as the season has gone on and he has shown
team leadership qualities at the most difficult times. Gary is just not cut
out at this level to manage Thwaites. He is a rubber dinghy man'
The Thwaites star was speaking before the start of the inaugral 7-a-side and
5-a-side cup competitions which takes place on Sunday and Tuesday
respectively. The brewery team are in action in the 7-a-side cup first in
what promises to be a blistering, furious encounter with bitter rivals
Craven VII. Midfielder Hopwood has appealed for calm ahead of the clash, 'I
know what it would mean to the players and the fans if we were to win and
get a place in the final but we must forget our past games against Craven
and concentrate solely on winning the game. I hold my hand up and say that
my behaviour has been unacceptable in the last two weeks after I was sent
off and then booked the following week for dissent. I aim to put a stop to
this despite some appalling decisions made by the referee this season which
has to say the least have infuriated me at times'
Meanwhile, Hopwood's Bee Hive debut has been delayed in order for him to
complete the season with Thwaites as well as ordering some special football
boots that will actually fit him. Manager Tiger has also bolstered his squad
with the signings of Simon Tipton who has recently agreed terms with the pub
team and defender Tabbinor who looks set to return along with Hopwood in the
next few weeks.
