Thwaites go top!!!
Thwaites FC started the season in style yesterday romping home to a 6-0
demolition of Oggy FC that saw them go top of the table. The brewery team
completely dominated the game and could have had the score in double
figures. Carl Elmer scored a hat-trick, Damian Tabbinor scored an
opportunist goal and Mark Slater and Pete McManus also got on the score
sheet.
Midfielder Jamie Hopwood put in a dazzling display as his trickery and tough
tackling had the opposition dazed. His performance is sure to be encouraging
for Manager Carl Elmer and he may be handed a fresh contract after nearly
moving to Italians Lazio last week. Defender Damian Tabbinor provided a
sterling performance. Goalkeeper Dominic Southworth was rarely tested.
Thwaites showed rugged resistance throughout especially when Gary Targett
and Carl Elmer were sent off within 30 seconds of each other in the first
half. Targett was dismissed for dissent and Carl Elmer for an inexplicable
lunge on an Oggy FC player. Thwaites held on with 5 men and got a morale
boosting victory - their first win in the Sunday league since they joined
last season.
They now look to continue their tremendous form next Sunday. However they
will be without several key players as Jamie Hopwood, Damian Tabbinor, Gary
Targett and Dominic Southworth are going to watch Balckburn Rovers at Aston
Villa. Simon Tipton is also unavailable due to work committments.
Man-of-the match - Everyone as they all fought for each other and looked
like a team who will win many more games this season.
