Gloomy day for Brewery giants!
Thwaites FC suffered a 4-0 defeat in the seven-a-side league yesterday
against league leaders New Rangers. The brewery team played well and were
unfortunate to go 1-0 down after 5 minutes. Simon Tipton than crashed a shot
against the post which was then cleared away to safety which highlighted
Thwaites finishing problems. Midfielder Jamie Hopwood was handed the
unenviable task of a lone strikers role in the injured Dominic Southworth's
absence. He played well but had to drop into midfield due to the attacking
prowess of New Rangers who turned the game on it's head by increasing their
lead to 2-0 early in the second half.
Thwaites also had goalkeeper Martin Slater missing as he went AWOL just
hours before kick-off and refused to play. He will face some questions from
the under-fire manager Carl Elmer. And it was Elmer who went in goal for the
first half and then Ian Davidson, a loan singing who was drafted in late on
replaced him in the second. The pair both pulled off some good saves but
could do nothing about New Rangers doubling their lead to 4-0 in the second
half.
The brewery team will need to pick up points in their next two games if they
are to avoid a relegation dog fight.
Match Ratings
Davidson 7 - Defended well, pulled off some fine saves
Tabbinor 7 - A good game from the competent defender
Elmer 6 - Average performance, made some stirring saves with his feet.
Hopwood 6 - Got stuck in. Not yet grown accustomed to the lone strikers role
Tipton 7 - Skilful performance. Came up against a good defence.
Slater 6 - Tries to do far too much. No doubt he is very skilful but what
does he expect apart from getting tackled when there are 4 players
surrounding him.
Tormay 6 - Too slow, some crunching tackles.
Martin Slater 0 - Went AWOL and was missing from the squad. Got drunk in the
afternoon and went spur at midfielder Jamie Hopwood when asked if he could
play. Shocking attitude from the fat cat.
