Thwaites Go Top!!
Thwaites stormed to the top of the 5 a side league last night, with a performance that is probably their best of the season. They beat their 'bogey' team of recent times, Lookers 6-3 and were 6-0 up by half time in a whirlwind performance! Thwaites, who were missing defender Tabbinor and midfielder Hopwood were superb in the first half and keeper Southworth didn't have a save to make in the first period. The second half saw Thwaites sit back and get a little complaceant but the tie was never really in danger after Thwaites stormed into a lead. The goals- Slater(2), Elmer(2) and Tipton(2) were all of high quality with some excellent build up play and finishes. Tormey who didn't get on the score sheet but in his best performance in a Thwaites shirt, despite recent rumours of him being an alcoholic, although he did turn up at the last minute again and in a sweat! Thwaites are now 2 points clear at the top of the league and hope to build on this for the seven a side league where they are second from bottom and staring relegation in the face! After the game manager Gary Targett and players Tormey and Tipton were hounded for autographs as they went into town and the world famous Utopia night club and it was reported they were all in a merry state!!!!
