Thwaites Star Not Shining Too Bright!
|Thwaites FC suffered a shock 3-1 defeat at the hands of league veterans
Whittles last night which saw the brewery giants miss out on the chance of
extending their lead at the top to three points. Simon Tipton gave Thwaites
an early lead with a well taken goal. However, Whittles soon equalised after
some sloppy defending. Things got worse for the brewery team only minutes
later as Carl Elmer was dismissed for foul and abusive language. He was
livid at the referee as he missed a blatant ball which was well overhead
height and was given his marching orders.
Hopwood and Tabbinor then replaced Elmer and Tormay. However, Tabbinor
conceded a penalty which Whittles duly converted. The brewery team then
bombarded the Whittles goal and would have been out of sight if it wasn't
for several heroics from the goalkeeper. Simon Tipton, Carl Elmer and Mark
Slater all having chances expertly saved. Thwaites were then astonished as
Whittles extended their lead to 3-1 as they were caught on the break as well
as some lax defending.
Manager Gary Targett will be despondent after this defeat as Magpies have
now returned to the top following their win last night. Victoria Hotel, next
weeks opponents, are three points behind the brewery team with two games in
hand. Thwaites have now got a massive task on their hands if they are to
clinch the title.

Tormay 6 - Off the pace
Elmer 6 - Came close to scoring. Needs to curve his disciplinary problems.
Tipton 7 - Scored a well taken goal. Frustrated towards the end.
Hopwood 6 - Battled well. No-one provided support up-front. Found himself
constantly having to pass it back rather than set up a goal-scoring
opportunity. A frustrated man.
Slater 6 - Tried to do too much. Should have scored at least three.
Meanwhile, Thwaites defender is set to hand in a written transfer request if
he is not given first team football. It is believed Tabbinor was upset at
not starting last nights game. He was seen leaving the ground with wife Liz
immediately after being substituted last night. AC Milan, Juventus, Real
Madrid and Mansfield are all thought to be lining up bids for the
no-nonsense former player-manager. The Thwaites board of directors have
refused to comment on suggestions that Jamie Hopwood is the subject of a 24
million pound bid from Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam.
