Jubilant Thwaites edge past S & W FC
Thwaites FC claimed a valuable win against S & W in the 7-a-side league
yesterday. The brewery team came out 2-1 winners in a passionate encounter
in front of new manager Dominic Southworth. They took the lead within two
minutes as Hopwood combined well with Slater to send lone striker Tipton
through to cooly slot home.
Thwaites goalkeeper Paul Slater pulled off some fine saves however he was at
fault for the equaliser as he flapped at a weak clearance. The scores
remained at 1-1 until the break. The second half was full of chances, mainly
for Thwaites. Central midfielder put in a fine performance with some great
passes and several tough tackles to prevent an S & W FC counter attack. And
it was Hopwood who wone the ball in midfield to slip the ball through to
Mark Slater who slammed home to win the game for Thwaites with only minutes
remaining.
The result is welcome relief for the brewery team who had lost several of
their previous games which has saw them rapidly move downwards in the table.
